I feel they want or will get a first round pick for him. Highly doubt the leafs move the 2020 pick too.

Couturier is a Selke level centre scoring 30+ goals and 70+ points now at 4.33mil for the next 4 years. Might be the best contract in the league if he keeps these past two seasons up.

I'm confident this is all media driven for hits. Leafs get knocked out in round 1 or 2 and theyd blame it on a slow but gritty player.

Teams that play the Leafs heavy usually do well.

FW: Hyman - Tavares - Marner - Matthews - Kapanen - Nylander
D: Rielly - Muzzin - Dermott
GK: Andersen

Above seems to be the Leafs core for next seasons, Dubas very unlikely to willing to change.
All the rest of the players could be made available in the right deal.

Obviously most of Marleau-Brown-Johnsson-Lindholm-Gauthier-Moore-Kadri-Zaitsev will be on team next year, but I don't think any of those belong to the core above. Kadri and Marleau probably closest to that core group.
