9pts from a wild card and 7 pts from dead last in the league. Can't see them trading assets for ufas when they should be in tank mode. |

Awfully bold of you to assume Canadian (or anyone for that matter) journalists are jumping on your bandwagon.
Its literally been years since you've been anywhere near breaking a story or roomer. |

Back to the TOR offersheets. Honestly that is the 2nd best scenario IMO behind them just signing. I know a bunch of you are reading this thinking Im crazy but an offersheet means deal is done. The leafs will match any offersheet which means they match it almost immediately and they are signed end of story rather than negotiations dragging on like it did with Nylander. If someone went and put in the offersheet in the Offseason on Nylander, the leafs would have matched and he would have been signed before training camp. |

This might be the worst scenario possible. If someone does offersheet Marner, it’s not going to be for 8/9 million, it’s going to be for 11/12. The leafs can not afford to pay him 11 per. Elliot Friedman reported the Leafs and Matthews are looking at a 5-6 year deal to keep the cap hit down. Hopefully they are able to do this with Marner as well. If he gets offersheeted, I say take the 4 first and go after Duchene/Stone/Panarin in the off-season. |

For all the skeptics who can't read between the lines, Ek didn't say that the Panthers would necessarily going after Bob and Panarin at the DEADLINE, this could be a July 1 deal where Florida makes a splash and grabs both. This won't be a trade deadline move. If this does happen, it gets done at the Draft most likely. |

The other teams were more than happy to let the Nylander situation work itself out as marner is the fish GM’s want. By letting Nylander take up $7 mill of TO’s cap and setting the floor for now for the marner negotiations TO will have to pay $9mill for marner ($8-$10 mill). TO only has $19.5 mill and with Matthews expected at $11-12 that leaves 7.5-8.5 mill for marner and everyone else (plus going over the cap by 10%) so any team can walk in and sign an offer sheet to marner that the leafs cannot match. Only way they do is offloading contracts like Kadri, Marleau (easier said than done) and losing guys like kapanen, Gardner etc.... in the process. |

Yeah leafs should just overpay everyone right off the bat so we never have to wait for a contract to be signed. How does dubas not know about this strategy. Pure genius.
