So we face the backup?
Shocking.

Bill,
Have you heard if Fletcher still has fairly open lines of communication with the Wild?
Would there be any interest in a Simmonds for Greenway type of move or do you think that is asking for too much for the Simmonds rental? or is it just too lateral to make sense for them?

We’ve been good against backups lately: Boston, Habs, Jets |

From the last blog, re: trading Simmonds to Nashville
Toronto and LA just showed us the market for a top-4 defenseman with 1 year left on his contract: a 1st rounder, and 2 young B-level prospects. No roster players, mo top-end prospects.
If we can get a 1st rounder, a top-end (forward?) prospect, or a young top-9/top-4 roster player (would vary player to player), I'd do it in a heart beat. So yes, if we could get Fiala or Tolvanen from Nashville, sign me up. |

Imagine Toronto sets the bar high for trade returns and then we flipped Simmonds for Ryan Murray and a third . I'd fire Fletcher myself. |

Ghost injury- Not necessarily stirring the pot, but they are calling it a bruise? If Ghost is still on top PP and getting his regular minutes, does a bruise keep him out? Hasn't missed a game in the last 88. Just asking.
If he got hit with a puck at the morning skate and it was in an unprotected spot, a deep bruise is very painful.
I also don't know Ghost's mental make-up or work ethic. I have seen him regularly avoid contact and not win puck battles due to lack of aggressiveness.
I'm not saying he isn't in pain. I am saying that his motivation is different with reduced minutes.
Thoughts? |

Here's hoping for Simmonds vs. DeAngelo part deux. |

Toronto set the bar high for top 4 defenseman that's not UFA. So basically they just told you what Ryan Murray is worth. |

Not all top-4 defenseman are equal, though. But yeah, I was wondering what his point was. |

In general a good Dman, or even a center, will bring more back in a trade than a winger. Also, with one year left at a very reasonable cap hit of 4 million, Muzzin brings more value to a team than a rental.
I really can't see them getting more than a late 1st or a good, but not blue chip prospect plus a late 2nd for Simmonds. |

Just means we can 100% get a first rounder and possibly a B prospect for Simmonds. Those were two of Toronto's top 5 prospects, clearly aware he has another year on his contract. |

Agreed. People were asking if they could get Fiala (good, young, top-6/9 forward) or Tolvanen (Grade A defensive prospect) for him. If they could get either, I'd call it a steal. |

Gotta love message board MD's who question a hockey player's toughness.
The lineup looked much better last night with the cokehead in the stands. But Ghost's injury in warm ups showed the danger of only carrying 6 healthy dmen on the roster, which apparently they will do tonight in NY, and maybe in Boston on Thursday. |

I don't think they'd give up Tolvanen for Simmer. You never know though, they must be frustrated he hasn't been with the big club much. There window is now too. |

If anything it makes me wonder what Gudas could get. I know he is not Muzzin but he has played well, under control and is RH. Plus a resonable cap hit next year. your not getting a 1st but what about a 2nd or two 2nds? Maybe a 3rd and low A prospect from a defense needy playoff team? |

No no. We don’t need Simmonds hurting his trade value by injuring himself. |

you don't think after that trade Simmer won't bring back a first plus? First is guaranteed, not sure what else a team will add. |

Yes, but I do think they could get a top 6 to 9 player that has shown "glimpse's"...like a Sonny Milano or Chad Greenway type possibly.
Fiala/Tolvanen may be too far down the path of proven |

I'm still trying to figure out how Durzi is one of Toronto's top-5 prospects (top-10, maybe). Also, a top-4 defenseman (top-3, really) with term is worth a hell of a lot more than a bottom-6 winger who's a rental.
If they could get a 1st for Simmonds, I can't see the other team adding anything. |
