Hey team - FYI ... my blog today will be delayed. My basement flooded and dealing with the clean up.

Just wanted to keep you all posted.

But some good possibilities for the future.

Strome, Jokiharju, Murphy, DeBrincat, Delia on the parent club.

Boqvist, Mitchell, Barrett, Beaudin, one or two others I may have on one farm or another.

While I do keep wondering how this group of young players compares to those of other teams, and only DeBrincat has proven much so far, there is some potential in the system.

While Stan certainly deserve criticism for a lot of his moves / non-moves - the cupboard isn’t completely boneless.

yes...fair points...but the last dman developed was hammy over 10 years ago...how many dman drafted or traded for have become solid top 4....NADA.

I liked tha hammy/murphy when it was made...murphy is on his way to being solid top 4 dman

You do understand why the trade had to be made, right?

I’m just surprised he can’t enjoy the trade purely for the sake of making a trade...you know... cause he likes trades.

https://chicago.suntimes....nite-with-artemi-panarin/

"When the Hawks visited Columbus, Ohio, in October, Panarin sent Kane a cryptic text the night before the game, asking him to meet up. After about a half-hour of chatting, Panarin pulled out a box with ‘‘a pretty nice watch’’ in it to thank Kane for helping him hit contract incentives with the Hawks."

They have a bromitment with each other. It's destiny they get reunited

Kurashev was also drafted with one of the picks that came back in the Hartman trade. Takes the edge off of Ejdsell not showing much and possibly being a flop. Sure, Beaudin and Kurashev could never make it to the NHL as well but I like their chances in relation to Ejdsell.
- AEL_Fox

Ryan Hartman isn't anything special. We win that trade by getting a first automatically.

He currently has 16 pts in 52 games. He is missing what's needed in between the ears.

Yes he appears on his way establishing himself as a top four. My concern with him is his skating.

The league continues trending each season, becoming more of a speed game. To be perfectly honest, games are not all speed dominated but more and more you see an emphasis on it. Name some top offensive players minus speed quotient......ok......Tavarez, Toffoli....um...not many upon quick reflection.

I foresee a strength of this team as three pairs of dmen and at least one or both each pair can skate well. One way to help gain puck control is to win all the races to the puck and outskate your opponent actually each five man unit.

Now i can live with Murphy on a third pair because he could help a kid mature on that pairing. Murphy traded -eventually traded, that is - would save us salary cap. If he was dealt it should only be if a Carlsson or ideally a Hillman or Gilbert takes his spot. This is peering far into the crystal ball but just a thought on the back burner which each GM has ....a what if scenario....a GM to be safe needs to constantly have what if thoughts. Not action, but thoughts for ever changing roster.

Obviously Murphy is an invaluable part of the equation now and likely at least until one.......probably two kids develop into nhl dmen

Has that ever happened in any sport? That would be amazing.... and probably spark an investigation into collusion. But I want someone to be traded for themselves.

I have a feeling and its being reported that Chicago plans on making a lot of trades prior to the deadline.

Saad ,Hayden , Kunitz, anismov, Kruger, Keith, Seabrook , Gustafson all those names have been mentioned and IMO saad anismov and Keith will most likely be moved to clear a roster spot and cap space while building depth.

Didn't Wise miss time last season due to injury? I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
- tvetter

That’s correct. Wise got injured pretty early last year and likely lead to the drop of his draft stock from a sure fire 1st rounder to the 3rd.

Agree, something to keep an eye on whether he is either injury prone or will have nagging injuries leading to a shortened pro career.

Would that make Stan the smartest GM? Bringing back an 80 pt player while also having the 50 point player?

And 50 point player is a dud? Saad was never going to be, or expected to be an 80 point player. He has the potential to crack 60, but was expected to be in the 50's. It's the 200 ft game he brings, the need for a top end PK with Hossa gone. I really do get confused when people only look at points.

- HawksHype

Nice assessment of Saad. A 200 foot player good for 50+ points like Saad is around what Wise may project to if he hits potential.

Well if a lot of deadline and draft day transactions by Chicago THEN we might suppose that Bowman extends his tenure because you need enough time to evaluate the player movement. Perhaps some prospects start to show up....Carlsson, maybe the #1 2019.

If Carlsson sticks from day one, there could be a second dman prospect too say by xmas. ....Beaudin, Mitchell, Hillman. I say play both Forsling and Jokiharju half a season in all situations at Rockford then determine how their development looks.

You cannot give up on them; they do not fetch much. But they fester too longer at NHL level. They had a taste NHL.....now play a lot in Rockford. Need good coaching at AHL too.

Ditto your comment on Murphy. When many lamented the Sharp trade to Dallas that also sent over Johns, Murphy could be what we were expecting in Johns but better. Both are big, strong, physical. Average skaters but can make up for it with positioning and gap control.

Maybe too much criticism of his skating is reported.

I have listened much more than watched a lot of the games last year and this season as well. Troy and Wideman (radio)are very good. Bodin between periods is no dumb non hockey voice. But I will reserve judgment on Murphy skating. For now I am going to believe you are probably correct with your assessment...still I plan to watch Murphy closely hereafter
