Ok Wrap your head around this...I didn't say Johnny Toes was a bad Captain. What I did say was Seabs might have been better. - Beaver-Warrior
You think Toes is a bad captain? |

Interesting little tidbit in Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts this morning: there were rumblings out there that the Hawks were apparently working on something “bigger” with the Oilers, who are working on moving Tobias Rieder to open up some cap room.
Will be interesting to monitor in the coming weeks and seeing if anything else comes of it. - TommyHawk
I guess if anything between Chicago and Edmonton are going to happen , Tobias Rieder would have to be moved first.
I'm curious what the big trade is |

AA, Gus, Kruger (and anyone else you'd like to move) for McDavid. And Edmonton would eat 50% of McDavid's contract. |

Interesting indeed. If there is a big deal coming up between the Hawks and Oilers, and while I like Rieder, hope he isn't the centerpiece coming over to Chicago. It's fine if he is a secondary or tertiary piece. |

I agree completely. However it sounded like Tobias Reider...would have to be moved first to clear enough cap space. |

It's being reported that Colorado is shopping nikita zadorov . I wouldn't mind seeing Stan go after that kid the upside is great 23 years old 6ft3 or 6ft5 235 pounds just what chicago could use on the backend.
Maybe a Gustafson straight up - Taylorst1
I would be interested in doing something like this. Zadorov is a Defensive minded D-Man who isn't afraid to get physical or stand up for his teamates either. Might be a smart guy to target and build with the core of upcoming D-men we have.

are the Raiders going to Vegas or not? - glennjpawlak22
Everything I've heard or seen says they are. Just waiting for the stadium to be built. Team just is trying to figure out where to play in the meantime since Oakland doesn't wanna help them out in the meantime

I completely agree. That's what chicago is missing is size and grit on the backend. His cap hit is 2.1 million and Gustafson is 1.5 or 1.8. |

Only issue is he's going to be a RFA at the end of the year and will likely want at least a million or so raise from that, but that's the type of FA investment that makes sense considering he's what 23? And will continue to grow and get better and you'd be paying for his "prime years". At the very least you could pair him with Murphy as your 2nd or 3rd Pairing "Shutdown" D-pairing. I'd go around 3M on a two or three year deal or close to 4M on a longer term deal like Murphy has |

Secondary thought, wonder if they would work something like Saad + (Gus maybe?, draft pick, guy on ELC, or not signed yet) for Nurse, Rieder, maybe Spooner as a flyer for a 3C the rest of the year into next

Hmm interesting. Seabrook, Lucic, AA, Spooner, Keith, Nurse are some of names that come to mind that would fit the bill of a "big trade" due to name value and cap hit.
Two things teams are always looking for going into the Playoffs: veterans with Playoff experience and big physical guys
I would think that he would be a piece coming to the Hawks in a deal not that they are specifically targeting him. Next ten days should be interesting with no games. Gives GMs a lot of time to sit and think and make calls. Might see something go down in the next week here - Savetheembers33
GMs have plenty of time to get things done. Maybe saad or anismov are in the mix.

Spooner is awful this deal would really hose chicago. I heard their 1st was on the table that would make it easier. But pass on spooner. |

Idk depending on the deal I might be willing to take a flyer on Spooner for a year and a half. He had a 49 and 39 point season in '15 and '16 and then struggled a bit the next year played only 59 games but still got 41 points between Boston and New York. Maybe the trade mid season threw his game off. Then he never really seemed to fit in New York and got shipped to Edmonton and that hasn't been a fit either. Idk still think there's some a solid NHL player there that can contribute and put up points. Could be a solid buy low option especially for one year. If they were willing to give up a 1st or a 2nd as well I'd be even more interested in the deal

Depending on what happens between Chicago and Edmonton say if Seabrook or Keith are moved and nurse comes back you then go after zadorov by moving Gustafson
Nurse Johki
Zadorov murphy
Dalstrom boqvist
Maybe a 2 year deal for Anton stralman |

Not a trade...Chiarelli agreed to give us Caggiula for Manning in order to get fired. The something bigger is us agreeing to give him another job in hockey. |

Bowman should find out if Ryan Kesler is available. He's big and tough and he hits like no other human being .... |

He also wrote that a number of contenders are interested in Kunitz (despite what the knowledgeable posters here opine) and that Calgary was a potential destination. |

I could see one of Keith or Seabrook moved. Not both. They will want to keep one to help tutor the next wave (more likely to be Seabrook than Keith) and I can't see a team taking on both cap hits.
If they traded Keith and Saad for something like Rieder, Spooner, Nurse, 1st or 2nd, and fillers to make the the cap hits closer (maybe get a third team involved to take Talbot from EDM and give them a backup and another piece, or you add Forsberg and take Talbot back and waive or flip him right away) then move Gus for Zadorov you could have something close to what you're looking at but Stralman wouldn't have a fit on the team
I didn't know that about spooner in he previous years.
But lucic no way

Yeah he was a very productive player for Boston before the Nash trade with the Rangers and then he's kinda lost his way a bit. For a team with a hole at 3C I'd consider trying to tap into that potential. Worse case scenario he plays bad and you got 3M in cap space coming off the books to help resign DeBrincat and Strome.
Lucic only comes to the Hawks if Seabrook is going back. Bad contract for bad contract. Only real benefit is that Lucic's deal is about 800K less and for one less year. Knowing that the Oilers would probably want the Hawks to retain the difference during that deal. That's why Keith makes more sense to me. Moves him closer to where he's from and gives them a legit Top 4 D-man they can count on to go with Klefbom when he's able to come back.
Something with Keith and Nurse makes sense for both sides. Especially if the Hawks are going to take Rieder back as well. Balances the salaries out. I like the idea of adding Spooner cuz of the possible upside, but Bowman may pass as it would create a bit of a logjam at C until they could maybe move AA out before the deadline |
