Sean Maloughney: Spooner and Rattie on Waivers, Jones Sent Down

Forgive me, I'm not trying to be rude, but I have an honest question. Edmonton seems to have a problem with their GM. He doesn't make good decisions. At least that's how it appears to people on the outside. So why hasn't the ownership fired him already? You guys have arguably the best player in the league on your roster, and Chiarelli is wasting his talent. With a guy like McDavid, don't you want to put the best team on the ice? How on earth is Chiarelli still employed? I'm asking honestly and with respect. I have nothing against the Oilers. I actually feel bad for McDavid at this point.

In a world where I thought Murray was the worst GM going. Chiapet continues to outshine him.

The optics would look bad, but they already look awful. The way it turned out is a Fully fireable offence, without even taking the other even worse moves into account.

But if he got claimed, at least next years money is off the books. That’s best case by a longshot. Won’t happen tho

Prob right move to send him down. But I feel pretty confident Jones is gonna be a quality nhl’er by next year. Slick skater, decent hands, good first passer. A good top 4 puck mover. Lots to like about him

My least cynical assumption would be that ownership wanted to maintain stability on the management level, tried to ride out the storm with Chia. Which in all honesty is like hiring a drunken pug as your ship captain...but yeah here I go getting cynical. I'd be surprised if you guys in Edmonton don't have any billboards up yet, hopefully they wise up this summer or sooner and we can start seeing McDavid in the playoffs on a regular basis.
