I wouldn't say it was malaise. Their top guys were out with injury (Forsberg, Arvy, Subban and Turris). Any team that loses that much firepower will feel it. Turris is still out but the others are back and they're starting to play like they did at the beginning of the season.

Oh, and the Preds PP is terrible. If they can keep it 5 on 5 they'll be fine but if it gets out of control, advantage Jets.

Looking forward to this one!

The Jets have make a breakout on the fly and don't have their wingers stand still just past the blue line taking a pass then trying to skate it up. All what happens is that they lose possession which causes their opponents easy access into the Jets end which leads to them being out shot. They have the speed and skill to out skate any team so why don't they do it?

Mo idea. Seems like an easy fix, and an obviously visible issue. Maybe someone with some paul with the coach can make it happen? I too wanna see maur movement

I did not look at the PP and PK stats- how does their PK stand up?

I think the Preds are deep enough to weather some injuries like the Jets though. IT's tough but they are a deep and dangerous team. I expect some fireworks tonight!

The Jets breakout has been very good, with good structure and executed consistently well (possible exception of #29).

The puck often starts down low, or from the half wall, is popped past blitzing forecheckers toward the slot and center iceman picks it up for a quick transition out of the zone. The pass to the middle used to scare the crap out of me but Jets have consistently done well with it, especially vs an aggressive forecheck.

Defense have also done a good job of using the net for a pick and tight turning it to create a transition with speed. Trouba does it best.

Preds have not had their whole team together all year. Forsberg and Arvidsson missed about 14 games each. Subban missed more. Still waiting to get Turris back. To be this high in the standings with all the man games missed is already a victory for this team.

Middle of the pack, but they've struggled a bit recently. I wouldn't care if the Preds were top 5 though, I don't want to be taking too many chances with the Jets power play. Dangerous enough 5 on 5. Looking forward to the match up though, the Jets/Preds games from last year were some of the most entertaining I'd seen during the regular season.

If there were ever a game to silence the critics on various players and the Jets as a whole, then this was one of them.

Helle was very very good tonight. Made some really nice saves

Brendan Lemieux had another whale of a game. He is quickly becoming a tour-de-force on the fourth line. Just the grit the Jets need for the playoffs. Dano and Petan who ???

Bryan Little continues his point streak. He's been playing tremendous of late.

Laine , finally started moving his feet and as a result has a great game

Morrow. Three assists and some really nice plays

Niku . Might be his best game of the season. He is finally starting to round into form right about on schedule , which gives us that extra depth we need.

Third and fourth line appesar strong enough to give our top line a break. As I said in an earlier thread ...you have to be blind to think we don't have a four-line team and at least three of them going any given night.

Yes , Jets now 6 wins in last 7 starts and starting to pull away a bit in our division. These last two games ought to silence the critics for a while .

Good statement game for Helle. A little internal goaler competition never hurts. 4th line is absolutley awesome, Niku is improving each game by leaps and bounds, Tanev continues to amaze, and Roslovic is also gaining more and more confidence. Laine looked like last year Laine, which is good.

Maybe Ehlers and Buff will have a hard time getting back into the line up when they are healthy, lol.

The more I see the success and talent of the new guys, in particular, Lemieux and Appleton the more I forsee Chevy trading Perreault.

I think the trade might be something like some combination of Perreault, Morrow, or Petan for one of the top centers available such as Staal or for a good left-hand defenseman. We are going to have to shed Perrault anyways at the end of the season unless we cant sign Tanev . Personally, I'll take Tanev over Perreault all day long considering the salary difference. Vesalainen also waiting in the wings. Perreault is as good as gone.

Its a win-win for the Jets . Shed some salary for next year and grab a really good player. Ottawa and Montreal would be good fits for Perreault.

Speaking of Petan, I thought Edmonton would have somehow tried to pry him out by now as they like his skill set. His skill is there, he just needs a spot to play regularly but with Appleton, Lemieux playing the way they are, how do you fit him in? I was hoping a team like Edmonton would pony up and trade for him.

Edmonton needs forwards, wingers, so why not try and do something?

That third line is so much fun to watch. With Tanev, Lowry and Perreault, its like releasing the hounds every time they are on the ice. Relentless pursuit of the puck, just like a pack of wild dogs.

Did anyone notice that on Ardvidsson's break away, Helle stood up and took the shot standing up? He didn't go down into the butterfly. He looked huge on that play but I thought he was a bit deep in the net,... but that took away the deke I guess.

I was shocked, this is the first time that I have seen a goalie standing up since Brodeur retired.

A few problems here:
1: while Lemieux had a decent game, that 4th line is still getting f*ck-started almost every time they’re in the ice, and that’s largely to do with Lemieux being there. They get destroyed in every measurable way on a game by game basis.
2: You do not trade Perreault. Period. A guy on a contract that underpays him that much, whom is better than the player you want to trade him for btw, is now someone you trade. He’s too good, and does too much good, to even be considered in a trade.
3: Do not sign Tanev. You don’t over pay 4th liners due to a hot year. This is basic stuff. You WILL have another Matt Martin/Leo Komarov/ Cal Clutterbuck/ Casey Cizikas/ Luke Glendening/ Ryan Reaves/ Dale Weise.
Having made that list, I’ve had two thoughts:
1: Tanev is easily the best player on this list
2: the state of the Islanders. Good lord. I want Lou and Carlyle to join forces in Seattle and see how fast they can fold the team

Point is: don’t sign a guy to too much money hoping for 30 points and epic PK work when you’ll only get 15~ points and horrendous PK work
