Ek has keith link to Edmonton and Toronto so question to Justin and the panel what's your best trade for Edmonton and Toronto to obtain keith from Chicago? Same goes with AA where does he get traded to if he is traded at all and more likely these trades happen near or on the TDL day. What day is TDL on this year?
- Scott1977

February 25th.

I really don’t see AA moved until the summer. Look at the way his contract is structured. His NMC/NTC expires, he is paid a signing bonus of $2 million on July 1. That leaves two years left with a total cap hit of $9.1 million but an actual cost of $5 million over that time. A budget team like Ottawa will cover Arty, especially if they lose a couple forwards to free agency and it only costs a couple mid-round picks to get him.

Question to all: we don't play Vegas for 2 days, but after 2 losses and Delia looking a little shakey last game, who does JC play in net?

Hockey stat of the day.

Kucherov, Point and Johnson have been a line in Tampa for 23 games. During that time, they have accumulated 100 points.

80s hockey like.

Toronto has some cap room this season but can't afford Keith's $5.5M cap hit next season and beyond when Matthews and Marner will cash in big time and guys like Kapanen, Johnsson and a couple other lesser lights will be needing raises too. Unless they offload Nylander or some other big contract there is no cap space for Keith ... unless the Hawks retain some salary. How about Keith with $2M retained for Kapanen? Kapanen has speed, size and can finish - I think he can be a top-6 winger. He can probably be signed in the $4M range. He's not going to score like Panarin or Stone or the other top free agents but he'll be a lot cheaper and will adequately fill the RW on Toews wing.

Dubas and Leaf-land are delusional...someone has got to go...Marner is $9mil+, Matthews is $12mil+...unless Bettman bails then out with a huge cap increase...the numbers don’t add up to keeping everyone with Nylander at almost $8mil, Marleau over $6mil and Kadri at $6mil....

It would be nice the the Hawks to be on the receiving end of some salary cap fortune. Not likely to happy, but it’s a nice idea.

Along with that - a comment or two about the 3x3 OT play in general.

Teams seem to have figured out the best way to win the third point of the evening - and that is to completely control the puck, don't turn it over.

Which means the team that has the puck just circles around the perimeter in the zone, takes it back out of the zone at the least sign of defensive pressure, and takes almost no chances on going to the net. They wait for the defense to make a mistake (which it usually does).

Defensively, the team without the puck also doesn't take any chances - very little pressure on the puck, making sure they don't get caught in half-court odd-man plays at the net.

When the 3x3 first started, they were terrifically exciting - up and back, odd man rush after odd man rush. Now they have become very boring, I think - they do eliminate the need for very many shootouts (a good thing in itself) - but the puck control game has taken over at the expense of what Doc call "firewagon hockey".

- StLBravesFan

Good observation. Just hold the puck until the opposing team’s players get tired because they can’t change. Preds on second set of players plus, in this game, didn’t hawks start OT with the three players that had the highest ice time.....probably already tired at puck drop.

AA can be moved for scrap metal , and salary relief.

Keith needs to haul at minimum a 1st round pick, maybe 2. Keith has 4 years of control left and on a contender would be a very very very nice addition.

Tampa Bay , Pittsburgh, Columbus, Washington, and Montreal are all teams he may consider waiving to if he wants to win again.

The Jets and Jackets seem to have the space to trade for Keith. Both could use him.

I dunno , something like that.

Would love for the hawks to LTIR Crawford and take on someone elses bad contract for an additional asset or two.

While he didn't get a lot of shots on net, did anyone else think that Hayden had one of his best games of the season last night? If he could bring that every game... he would play every game. Simple, went to the corners, won pucks, laid some Preds into the end boards. All good things.

Good concept, is it a shot attempt or SOG and how do you tell a shot attempt for sure? Maybe SOG in 45 seconds or call a stoppage for a faceoff (allowing a line change)?
- totem

Or how about borrowing a page from football. Visiting team starts a rush from their own zone with 60 seconds on the clock. They have the full 60 to do whatever they want.

If 60 seconds expires or home team recovers the puck or team scores, clock stops and home team starts a rush with 60 seconds of time.

Each team is guaranted one 60 second series. If tied after one series (0-0 or (1-1), each team is guaranteed a second series. If tied after second series, each team gets one final series. If tied after three series, advance to shootout.

Agreed that he’s earned it. But I almost think they are better off playing ward a lot to keep Delia from facing too many losing situations. Think the hawks know what they have in him and would not like to see his confidence shaken facing 40+ shots every game.

Kasperi Kapanen would be a great addition for a Gustafson/Forsling + Pick

I'd love to see Kapanen for Keith straight up, but if Toronto thinks that this is the year that they have to make a run before losing guys due to cap constraints, I think that they'd want to hold on to Kapanen.

To make a run this season Keith would be more vital for Toronto than Kapanen. Toronto have a really deep and talented forward group, their defense is what would prevent them from being a cup contender. Not sure getting only Keith gets them over the hump but the current Toronto defense is the weak spot of the team.

You would have to deal a lot to get Bobrovsky. Much more than just AA.

I do like the creativity though!

- Justin Lowe

It's not a bad idea. I just recently read a article that Montreal was interested in Keith and Columbus was interested in Keith and pietriangelo. So maybe it's a creative idea.

If Keith is moved and I have a strong feeling he might Toronto did say they want someone with term and 2 players they would move would be kap and Kardizi.

That is a possibility both come.

I have no idea what Keith's value is to Toronto or any other team and I have no idea what the Hawk's feel he should bring back. However It's doubtful the Leafs move two roster players in one trade. I also think that Kadri at 28 years old isn't what the rebuilding Hawks need. Kapanen would be a good return and if Keith commands more I'd expect it to be in prospects or draft picks.

I hear what your saying. I've read that Toronto would be willing to move both kap and kadri,so from a cap perspective and Chicago looking to get young upfront kap makes sense and kadri would help down the middle at a cheap rate.

I don't see anisomov and saad being on this team next year . So you could have a 3rd line of kadri debrincant and kahun.

Then your 4th line kampf drake Perlini. Just a thought.

Interesting and random tidbit I stumbled across this morning while scrolling through stats:

David Kampf, Artem Anisimov and Jonathan Toews are tied for 10th in the NHL in takeaway differential at +18 each.

We are getting so far away from hockey that games will be decided by a different sport (I guess to an extent it already is).

First the shootout - a big jump, but at least patterned after penalty shots. I hate it.

Then 3x3 - there used to be a lot of 3x3s in the game, back when everyone could jump the boards for a fight and the penalty boxes were full - a step away from normal hockey with a clock, but ok.

Now we want a shot clock. What’s next - no defensive play in the neutral zone? Eliminate zone defenses? Enlarge the goal?

I started this by commenting on the lack of excitement in the OTs since teams figured out the conservative way to play was the best way.

But - leave it alone - it works, eliminates ties, gets rid of most of the shootouts....

I agree with your assessment. The NHL has gotten away from the basics of the sport.
