Yeah... I wish they wouldn't have gave away that draft pick. Why do this when you're in rebuilding mode? |

We can now stop calling this a rebuild. Not that it ever was to begin with. |

Hitting a bottom is not easy. It will always feel frustrating until the young guys begin to take over. |

Need a larger sample, but the way Hogberg has played it makes me wonder if the Nilsson trade was necessary at all. Assuming he's recovered from injury, should Craig Anderson be made available at the deadline? |

Vancouver picked up Pyatt in the deal so they will cover the remaining $600K on his contract. This may have been part of the motivation for the trade. |

I find it hard to believe that anyone is questioning giving up a 6th round pick to get some basic NHL-level goaltending, especially given the team's crisis in net. For those arguing about the rebuild, let's not forget that Ottawa doesn't get the draft benefit of a collapsed season this year... so finishing at the bottom of the standings does absolutely nothing to help them. Nilsson might even be wiling to re-sign for a chance at a #1B role next season, which could help the team transition away from its borderline absurd over-reliance on Anderson. Not to mention that getting rid of Pyatt is a virtual addition by subtraction at this point.
If people are really worried about picks in the coming draft, I'm sure there will be more than a few in play when the team starts off-loading players around the deadline. Even if they manage to get Duchene and Stone re-signed, that still leaves all of Dzingel, Boedker, Tierney, Smith, Ceci, and DeMelo very much available for the right price... I'm looking at you, Peter Chiarelli. |
