I wonder what Matthews did to Babcock to earn this punishment...
- markmark

Looks like “career AHLer” Zacha is now a 2C..

Who woulda thunk..

I'm probably going to get banned in the Tanner thread, so before I'm gone, I'd just like to wish all of you a happy holidays, and all the best in 2019.
- Atomic Wedgie

Lol..

Note that those tweets were from 13 months ago, when Mitch was still being moved around the line-up by Babcock. That being said, you're bang on. Hopefully Paul Marner is learning to keep his mouth shut publicly, and speak to/through his son's agent if and when he's frustrated about things.
- Monkeypunk

Yeah, its just not smart what he said.

He basically said Marner was as good as Mcdavid. When a random ding dong says with 12 followers on twitter says that they get blown up.

You can't be getting involved.

As much as we think Micheal Nylander was involved in negotiations, there was zero proof he was. He did not talk to media even once...Thats how you handle being a hockey parent.

You mean the Sabres lineup AHEAD of the Leafs in the standings?
Shouldn't our great depth mean we are better than them?

- RogerRoeper

Regular season standings mean twat. What we do in the playoffs will define this team.

Yeah, exactly. Unless, we lose in the 1st rd again.. If we do, I hope we at least had a good regular season.

I'd rather squeek into the final spot and go deep in the playoffs than have the pressure of being first in the division and going out in the first round.

Paul Marner does what a Dad does and says his son deserves respect, because he does.

Then the media makes it this big deal and gets all righteous on him. The last SDP was the worst I’ve ever heard. Hes lecturing Mr Marner, telling him not to do stuff because it reflects bad in him. Steve, honestly bud, stfu. You can’t (frank)ing skate and you’re popular because you scream on YT.

Sorry man.

He is absolutely right. Steve did not say in any way the media is right to do what they do. In fact he makes fun of the media all the time.

This is Toronto and you can not say things like that or you will only cause problems for Mitch. I am not saying the media is right. I am saying in this market it absolutely reflects bad him. And sadly it did.

Steve gets righteous, all the time..

Steve’s thing is to kick up dust around a non-issue, then talk down to the (lesser than) fans. He latches himself on to an issue and starts talking like he’s a former player (even they can be annoying). He knows nothing about the game and just memorizes stupid poop like who got traded for a 4th liner 7 years ago.

The way the playoff format is structured sucks.. It doesn't do us any favours, unless we win the division.

Wanna be the best, gotta beat the best.

I doubt Tampa/Boston/Buffalo like it either. But that’s just how it works out now with so many good teams in the Atlantic.

Fair enough..

If he ever makes it mainstream at SN, it’s just another bad decision by them imo.. they’re already border-line amateur.

I've always hated the argument that it takes a former player to understand the game. It takes a former player to have experienced the game, but to analyze the game, you don't have to have been a player.

A former player probably has all sorts of stories that would surely embolden the metoo movement - but very few of them have the overall insight to have been good analysts.

I don't mind what Dangle does. At times it's annoying, and at times he can talk down to the base - but bear in mind for large portions of our fanbase, he's not talking down to them at all.

I don’t dislike Dangle.

It’s content. He talks exactly like I do, or like ppl our age. So he’s relatable. I’m actually happy for the guy, and I want him to have a successful career in broadcasting.

But for me, he’s closer to a Simmons or Cox. Maybe my opinion will change.

I know it sucks in the Atlantic, if you don't win the division you have the hardest route to the Cup final.

I don't know. I despise Simmons. Simmons and Cox bother me more because they actually went to school for Journalism (I presume!), then got a job working for a publication that presented them as serious journalists - but they are terrible. They make stuff up. They fear monger. They hate the team they write about it. I'm not saying they're worse than Hitler, but now it's on the internet . . .so it could be true.

I do agree on a base level with you, I think. Whether Dangle is good at what he does or not (and to be honest, I liked him more before he joined Sportsnet, and had the Podcast, and Lunch apparances, and so on - and got too much exposure - because you run out of content), I really did like the fact that he basically was a guy like any of us who is decent at video editing, and made his Leaf opinions known.

The number of times my wife encouraged me to start a Leaf blog or do something - just so I'd stop female doging about things to her - it makes me respect what he did to get there.

Offer sheets don't currently make sense. A couple reasons.

1. They are extremely punishing to the team signing them. The rules currently inflate the AAV in what a team has to give up by I think dividing the total contract by 5 years instead of the actual number. So you may give up more first rounders than you wanted to.

2. Players coming off ELC are getting big deals so the team signing them has to make it lucrative to the player to A. sign the deal B. Pay the big money and pay the compensation picks.
