I think I'd rather have Dea with his speed and tenacity on the 4th line over the likes of Cullen, Wilson or Grant...

I'd like to see someone new altogether. What I've seen from Dea is blah. Maybe, just maybe there is another player in WBS that could contribute something else. The must think little of guys like Angello and DiPauli.

Solid win. Worried about Hornqvist. Hope he gets healthy. Concussions are serious. Not much in WBS to help right now. But any contribution from 4th would be welcome. Still waiting for Malkin to pick up his game. DeSmith with good numbers. Looking for some consistency but often difficult with injuries.

Despres initially excelled a little offensively when he went to Anaheim. He had a very big night in the playoffs for them that year that made everyone hate the trade a bit more. Remember that the trade was on the deadline day of the year (2015) before the 2016 cup. The year of the trade was the year the Pens played the Rags first round with only 5 defensemen dressed, Lovejoy one of them, most of the games and still only lost all 4 games 2-1 to the Rags.

No I dont want to keep regurgitating that trade ....my initial point was that the big thing and overreaction of that trade was Despres potential and I'm also reminded of it because it was with the Ducks. I think its the same for Sprong. Fear of the unknown or what will be of him in the years that come. In this case though the Pens got back a player that is very young and could turn out anywhere from ok to solid to good to great. I've liked a lot of what Ive seen of Pettersson so far.

Gonna drag the last post from the prior blog here...

Just want to say that unlike the Depres Lovejoy trade, Pettersson is young as well. He has a year on Sprong, but I believe Dmen develop and hit their primes a year or two slower than wingers, so he is 'almost' younger in his development towards his ceiling.

Definitely agree about the Petterson Sprong trade. Plus, if rumors are true...and when they come from Rutherford, they usually are...that was just a precursor. Meaning, maata is now looked at a guy who can be moved for a "proven" top 9 forward.

Rutherford literally said it wasn’t a precursor, although I don’t think any move is off the table for this team right now.

Grants interesting to me. But, I agree. Sheahan is putting up points with better players. Hopefully Deal can regain early season form and add something over the long term with him Sheahan. But, for now, RS is probobly going to be elevated to a top 9 winger role...which, short term, is fine.

DiPauli is the guy I'd like to see. Admittedly I haven't seen him in WB, but that kid can fly. He had Hags speed in camp. I've read a few things where he's been good this season down there.

Sounds like Cullen might be back fairly soon. Maybe during this road trip.....sigh.

I'm just saying that others are reporting that he's willing to move Maata now. So, it's probably true. So, direct precursor? Maybe not intentional. But, opening up his options? Definitely.

Uhh he has 3 points in the last 2 games. Not sure what he really has to pick up?

I'm not so sure JR wants to mess with team chemistry right now. The needle has moved to the positive direction. I do however see him making a move on the waiver wire if there is one available. Alot depends on Horny.

Whatever JR plans to do with Maatta I don’t believe is directly tied to that move. Now, if Petterson really succeeds it likely increases those chances, but I don’t think there’s a direct correlation.

Yeah Rutherford has no clue what tact or shrewdness are. I’m sure he’s still looking to make trades, but when he says that acquiring the 100th defenseman on the roster wasn’t so he could make a different trade, I believe him.

Waiting for the Brassard trade to happen. He looks like he hates life on the ice and we gave up a guy that is the only one of his kind in the entire league to get him. The sooner that he’s not mopeing around the ice the better.

Brassard's play has been below expectations but I'd prefer him over reaves.
