Anthony Travalgia: Better effort, but same result The Bruins were much better Thursday night in Tampa Bay, but not enough to knock off the Lightning

Maybe I'm alone but I thought they were soundly outplayed most of the night, there were times they looked like they were shorthanded.

Hold On Boys and Girls, the ride is getting bumpy. See how the weekend goes

Most will say find a trade partner to make a run at the playoffs....im starting to look the other way. Lets do a giant reload and tank our way to a top pick.

Saturday and Sunday's games just might drop us out of the last wild card spot.
Not much puck luck lately.

Part of the problem is ownership won't allow this team a soft or hard reset. In 2015 instead of allowing a soft reset they put all their chips into trading up for Hanafin and failed. There was no backup plan for example, trading for Werenski or intelligently using the picks. Now that all these kids have petered out, the whiff on that draft is really starting to hurt this team.

Complete Hockey News had a grim report that Bergeron's evaluation in two weeks is to see if he can heal without surgery. If he requires surgery, he's probably out for the year.

Woah, if this is the case, then realistically you will have to look towards next year.

I do understand WHY they didn't go the hard re-set, but those 2015 picks are really killing them right now.

Soft reset was needed. Smarter drafts and trades should've happened and contracts like Backes and now Moore should've been avoided. What the Jacobs don't realize is the money comes in after proper team building that result in deep playoff runs.

This town loves Hockey but it hates loser teams. This fanbase as all but dead during the Joe Thornton era. It bottomed out so bad they had to hard reset. They finally started paying for guys, like Chara and Savard. Those teams from 2008-2012 are still making them money.

Make no mistake, with Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots still being successful people will stop paying attention if the Bruins continue to do this, this poorly. I will still be here like I was during the Joe Thornton era. But I am also an idiot and don't learn.

Agreed....They not only struck out on trading up, but Sweeney kept reaching for guys in the draft which was just bizarre and embarrassing. If you want Senyshyn so bad, and Frederic so bad, trade those picks and move down into the 2nd round. Debrincat and Steel, which were highly touted, were available when they took Frederic as well.

And Sweeney has been unable to land a top 4 dman since his tenure. I'm really beating on Sweeney, he has had some mishaps, but he has done ok. The youth is still there and should grow when the team gets healthy.

I think it’s a little unfair to harp on him for his bad picks while glossing over picks like McAvoy, Carlo, and Studnicka. and Frederik still looks like a good prospect. 2015 first round was bad. It sucks that they were so unprepared, I feel like they’ve proven since then that they can make some good picks. Even the rest of the 2015 draft was pretty good.

Also, Sweeney said his plan was to develop not trade for defensemen. I think he’s following through on that pretty well with McAvoy, Carlo, Vaakanainen, Lauzon, Gryz, Clifton. Bruins have potential for a Predators type D corps.

I just wish they were a little more transparent about what their plan is. If they think this team can compete, ya we’re in trouble. If they just decided this team wasn’t gonna beat Tampa/Toronto this year so they rolled the dice with the kids, I’m ok with that and I think they should stay the course. Everyone wanted the kids to play back in the Claude era. This is what that looks like

Its easy to harp when he went against the grain.
McAvoy was pretty much a slam dunk and anyone could have made that pick where they got him and I'm not entirely sold on Carlo. Like I said I don't want to beat Sweeney up completely. He has done a respectable job with some mistakes along the way.
