Good low risk move for Edmonton as he should help the power play and moving the puck up ice. The sixth rounder is a bit of an underpayment though.

I mean when was the last time someone was happy with the return for a Sens player? Definitely have go back a few years.

This was likely because of the video.

Not sure if the writer of this blog is aware of this, but, the pick is the one from St. Louis which was obtained for Jeracek, which could end up being a 5th.

Not really sure why they make the move now and not maximize the trade for a pick later.

The Sens have lots of offensive skill in their defensive group. What they need is physical size and grit. Harpur must be close to coming off of injury reserve.

If Wideman gets time with the Edmonton power play he might put up some nice numbers.

We don't need offensively skilled Dmen but still we should have gotten more. Wideman can get a lot of points if he gets a spot on the EDM PP

Between the years of 2008-2012 (players currently 24-29 years old), only 19 of 150 (12.6%) players picked in the 6th round have played at least 100 NHL games. Only 12 of those have played more than the 175 games that Chris Wideman has.

The return is less than underwhelming. This move reeks of the organisation thinking this is addition by subtraction. This whole argument of getting "something" in return for a UFA being better than nothing is ridiculous.

If nothing else Wideman is a serviceable bottom pairing defensemen who can contribute in a secondary role on the power-play. Keeping him for the remainder of the year and having him fulfil even this minor role has more value than a lottery ticket with an 87% chance of turning up nothing.

If they were dead-set on moving him, why not give him more minutes over a couple of weeks before to showcase him, pump up some offensive and TOI numbers and maybe get a better pick in return.
