Very happy the Isles did not score on the bogus 4 minute penalty call. Glad to see both teams playing better than expected. The Rangers are finally building a team correctly by not overpaying aging veterans. Both teams will be competitive for years to come. I think the Isles are a small step ahead as far as the quality of the young kids, and a bigger step ahead as far as coaching staff as a whole. |

And yet, I keep seeing lots of people who want to deal him now while his value is presumably highest. I would not be shocked if he continues to develop under Quinn, as seen in Larry Brooks' column if he re-ups with the Rangers during or after next season.
"There’s a strong element of accountability here. If you’re a young guy and are helping the team, you’ll play. If you’re an older guy and are helping the team, you’ll play. If you’re young and you’re not contributing, you’ll sit. If you’re older and not contributing, you’ll sit,” Kreider said. “We’re developing but at the same time we’re trying to win games, we’re trying to make the playoffs.
“That’s what the NHL should be. That other stuff, just playing because you’re young, that goes on at the AHL level. So yes, the way we’re operating here under coach [David] Quinn is a lot like what I was envisioning." |

Too early, Tom, too early. Especially after I was there in person to watch the defensive debacle last night |

Really that hasn't happened in a long time. Most of the veterans they were picking up were at the TDL to help in a playoff run, like most teams do. I get the gist of what you are saying though, it is nice to see the Rangers getting some good young players in the draft and trades from last year. |

Best thing for the Isles and Rangers to do is continue with young talent and not go heavy with Free Agents. Most of these signings just do not work out well. Try to sign the mid level FA's if possible. |

You mean Grabs and Nash didn't work out for the Devils and Bruins? |

Hayes& Kreider are the real deal shake & bake |

Larry Brooks on PP defense:
The Staal-Pionk pair has been on for the last nine PPG's the Rangers have allowed; three with Hayes-Fast, five with Zibanejad-Zuccarello, one with Hayes-Lettieri.
For season, Staal has been on for 13 in 51:54 of 4-on-5; Pionk, 10 in 48:55; Skjei, 2 in 37:31; Smith, 2 in 27:58; Claesson, 0 in 15:34; McQuaid, 0 in 14:27.
Past due for Ruff to switch them up.
Use Claesson on the PK as a first change (my recommendation) |
