BONUS since I missed the deadline:

great move for the Kings. Get out of paying almost 4 million to a dud, and you can still flip Hagelin at the deadline. Cap flexibility and at least a 3rd rounder at the deadline. Its no lose for them.

It seems like a Meh kind of trade now but the Kings are already in the early stages of preparing for the future (possible rebuild). Yes, with Hagelin being a UFA at season's end, it is very likely that he will be dealt at the deadline for a middle round draft pick. Hagelin has good speed so he will be a decent commodity at the Deadline.

By dud you mean a guy who scored 40+ points the last two seasons?

Tanner, I agree that the the Kings needed to do this move. I also believe that the pens were in a unique situation.

The king's are setting up for the future and, unfortunately for them, Pearson has been one of the unluckiest players in the NHL this year...meaning, a better return including a pick was out of the question. They got a useful player who's can't be measured just by his numbers.

The Pens, on the other hand, are no longer able to win games on pure speed. I mean, they're still fast. And, once Brassard and Schultz come back they'll be able to play the game at a higher pace. Plus, Pearson can move too. That said, they're going to have to start to win because of superior skill and not just out racing every team. Pearson gives you much more skill and should be a player that meshes with Sid, Geno, Brassard very easily.

I personally like the trade on both fronts.

Well, I thought it was a good trade for the Pens when I heard it go down. Now that Tanner thinks this was a good move for the Kings, I know the Pens did well.

Pens will just continue to try out the scrapheap to see if anyone can play with Sid or Geno. And Rutherford felt the need to shake up the team. Whatev move. Hopefully Pearson can finish a few chances, lord knows Hags can't. Surprised it wasn't Maata or Sprong that he gave up.

if you're rebuilding, a 26 year old 40 point player costing 4 mill per year is pretty useless. He definitely could pick it up playing on the Penguins for sure.

Rob Blake said that Hagelin is speedy and can get to holes. He'll be entering a huge black hole in L.A. Tanner will resuscitate his career in Pittsburgh, in my opinion, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up having a pretty decent year considering the start he got off to in L.A.

I hope I won't be flamed for even asking this, but does Doughty even have a NTC on his current contract?

Ya and 40 points is not bad. 15 Goals, 25 assists. If he can regain that form on the 3d line, great. But if not, you are paying 3.75M for a 4th liner, when you were so close to having Hagelin free up that cap space. Either way, not a big move, just keeps a guy on their payroll who better return to a 40 point player.

He won't be playing 3rd line on the Pens. The only LW ahead of him on the depth chart is Guentzel.

I don't see Oleksiak going anywhere. Maata? Could definitely see that

Uhmm Oleksiak was scratched a couple times. I could see him gone if the deal is right. Btw Määttä and Oleksiak were all over the place last night. They feel a trade is coming for sure. Nobody wants to be the man out.

Jim Rutherford has created this current mess by mismanaging the roster the past two offseasons. He made a terrible signing in Matt Hunwick. Traded a 1st for Reaves. Doubled down on Hunwick by signing Jack Johnson. Oh and to get rid of Hunwick he had to sacrifice Sheary. Then to top it all off, he signs Cullen, who is clearly done. Jim Rutherford slammed the window shut.
