Morgan Rielly is 100% a number 1 defensemen. No question.

Aho, Slavin, Svechnikov, and (Probably) Hamilton are off limits.

Anyone else is probably available one way or another.

- BINGO!

Meh, would rather keep Nylander if Hamilton is off limits.
No one else on your D is worth Nylander and 2 for 1 trades for a guy like Nylander at the beginning of his career will only come back to haunt the leafs.

I think Dubas just doesn't want to trade him.
- BINGO!

Neither do i really, just making trade scenarios in case we need too.

He usually gives me a quick ring before he does any moves.

Nylander has until Friday to sign or he loses 25% of his earning due to games missed.

They said there is ways around it but then the leafs would lose the savings of the cap hit being smaller because of the hold out.

I wonder if it puts any added pressure on either side.

No, both sides knew this. WN was not in a hurry b/c the signing bonus can minimize his loss this year. Leafs won't love it but the $300k or whatever they might've saved in year 2 and beyond is pretty insignificant.

The pressure is still December 1 ....holding out for a bridge deal until then likely costs WN almost nuttin'.

Pittsburg has made a trade that is very complex from teh cap apparently.

Possibly involving Nylander on a sign and trade (Pure speculation)

8 Million 3 years from now is going to be a much smaller percentage of the cap than $8 million today.
- BINGO!

Okay so he will get 9 million then.

While Nylander is getting 6.5 from the prorated cap.

Bad defensively, trade him while he's hot for a guy with sandpaper who struggles to pass the puck without turning it over or icing it.

Hearing Brett Pesce is still interest for leafs but leafs would also want a top nine roster player to make deal complete. M ferland is on an expiring contract end of this year. Although leafs might like ferland they want a roster player they’d have control over for next 4-5 years. Matt dumba also interest to leafs but again Eric staal only one year left after this year at $3.5 and would be extend to be with leafs. It seems really leafs want two roster players from any given teams that they can have control over for next 4 years minimum. B pesce is on a decent contract but 1 player is not enough. From leafs lunch today

Bottom line I want nylander to stay on leafs.
Dubas will have to tinker with pieces prospects etc to get another decent d man

I highly doubt Dubas planned to let Nylander sit out so he could take advantage of the cap thing by signing him nov 30th.

As much as I would like to give him credit for being clever and thinking outside the box a little, Nylander in the lineup day 1 is the best outcome no doubt. this has been a small miss for Dubas imo..until we see the outcome

some want to trade Nylander for Montour (plus or whatever).
I havent seen him play much, but looking at his numbers, he is very meh and not what I would want as a center piece D coming back.

here is tool to compare players, he doesnt show very well

Montour would be one of those Hall for Larsson deals (if it were 1 for 1) that you regret yesterday

Yeah, and McKenzie said the Canes aren't interested in giving up Slavin, for obvious reasons.

It's a weird situation, given that nobody really has any leverage over, well, anybody.

HUH?

L.A. and Pitt do a trade for Pearson, and somehow you think Nylander is involved?

Yes.. Cause Nylander, that's why.

L.A or Pitt are clearing salary to take on Nylander. Come on, man... you know that.

I’d strongly consider that.

He’s a top pairing D man at age 23.

yeah, pretty much sums it up.
Leafs want Slavin, and Carolina wants Nylander, but Carolina doesn't want to trade Slavin and the Leafs don't want to trade Nylander.

The leafs aren’t interested in giving up Nylander either.....

If there is a trade neither team will like giving up the player they give out.
