McDonough looks like a large predatory bird. Get this non-hockey guy out, the build is over. Time to let hockey minds run the team.

It was a good run. This started over a season ago. Getting swept in the first round then not making the playoffs last season. You would have to think if Coach Q is the problem they should have made this move in the off season. Why now?

Nickmo,

Thank you for your comment on prior thread. Great question.

There is no doubt there is some culpability there with SB. While most fans understand cap constraints etc... Many may not fully appreciate that Chicago is no longer the primo destination for free agents anymore.

The assumption is that the Hawks get first swing at all inbound college stars, euro players and free agents. I am not an SB apologist by any stretch, but it appeared to me that SB and organization have gone the route of drafting and signing the smaller faster players, which are thriving all over the league (see Tampa), but that conflicts with Coach Q's style.

I am not saying Q is right or wrong, all we have to do is watch games and see teams gas the hawks with speed like we used to 5 years ago.

I believe in the end, fans will embrace the move as the teams style of play and energy will greatly increase. And though they may not raise a cup this year, the club will leave it on the ice, which Chicago fans appreciate.

I don't think it is necessarily team speed as much as it is an inability of the defense to make clean breakouts and transition. So much of his system is based on making the quick transition out of the zone or hitting the stretch pass. Teams have shut that down. The Hawks look like a much slower team than they are based on a style/system they are attempting to play.

Did I just hear mcDonut say Stan's decision making has been excellent????

He should be fired for that alone.

What NHL level defenseman did Stan draft and develop in all his ten plus years as GM? Guess what. None until Joki made the roster this year. Of course, he drafted Johns if you want to count him, but he gave him away for free when he botched the Sharp trade.

The point is he did great surrounding a great core until 2015. Since then, maybe since the Danault trade, it has been a continual series of bad decisions that have torn down the team to the state it is in now.

It is one thing to not add a core piece while drafting late, but it is another thing to have nothing but AHL fodder to fill out the NHL roster around the core. Gustafsson? Come on. He is the only NHL GM that would have even offered him a contract last year. If it wasn't for Stan he would be in Sweden right now.

He sunk the depth on this team in a terrible way. Again, he didn't bring Panarin into the organization, Barry Smith did. But he did jettison a top 1o point producer in all the NHL for a guy who has played his way to the 4th line three years running.

So do you really think Stan was going out of his way to NOT add any all star caliber talent because the Hawks were up against the cap? Really?

- hereismike1

Yes. That's kind of the point. They couldn't afford another one. (at least through 2015)

Also, on Gus, totally disagree. He might not be on about a half a dozen team's rosters, but he's a 5/6 dman on pretty much everyone else's and being paid like one.

The Rutta contract I disagree with.

Can't thank Q enough for what he did to this young Hawks team when he came aboard. As a kid growing up in the 90s and watching all of our best players be traded away not understanding why they were traded, and not getting to see the home games on T.V. having to listen to them on the radio to seeing Rocky take over, bring Foley back and putting the games on T.V., watching Kane and Toews be drafted and come up, Hossa being signed, and all the countless other moves that were made that made this team what, I could not have imagined being lucky enough to see ONE Stanley Cup win let alone THREE. I am beyond grateful for this. I took it for granted at times assuming this team would always be on top instead of soaking it in as much as I can. I wish Q nothing but the best of luck going forward whether he chooses to retire or go elsewhere he will always have a place in the hearts of the diehard fans. I hope Colliton can help this team along and get back to greatness. Whether or not that will happen will be up to the players and those in the front office who will set the course of this team going forward.

Thank you again Q

I get that Seabrook has an albatross contract, but I will never get to the point of not liking and respecting that guy.

Nobody has asked about the process that happened over the past few weeks, and yesterday.

I assume there was a meeting yesterday: I'd be interested in hearing something about what happened at that meeting.

Was the decision made at/during/after the meeting? Or before? If not before, did something happen AT the meeting to precipitate the action?

Not that we'd get completely truthful answers, but I'd like to hear the "spin".

The player interviews are well done. First time most of them had to deal with this. It is a healthy wake up call for them as players.
