"Dubas has the benefit of an organization chock full of prospects and might be more willing to include the club’s 2019 first round pick in a potential trade, since it will likely be in the 20’s based on the Leafs early success."

Don't forget our real savior. The greatest free agent signing of last summer, hell maybe the greatest free agent signing in the history of the NHL.
Tyler Ennis. |

I can't believe we traded Phaneuf
and Ottawa is STILL paying for him with nothing to show for it. |

Can't believe we traded Dion either. As soon as the deal was announced, I knew the brass was dead serious about Shanaplan. |

Unlikely scenario for sure. Never gets this far. But, let's say the Leafs and Willie can't come to an agreement. So he sits the rest of season cause Dubas has no plans to trade him. And over the course of the off season, still no agreement. How long can the Leafs retain his rights as an RFA? |

Maybe the better question is what does it take to break the impass? |

the problem is he is asking to much. Short term deal. prove you are worth by having a killer season. He is no generational player, so why does he think he is worth 8 mil (if that is in fact true) |

I don’t mind Spurgeon, no idea what he would cost to acquire and extend. I can imagine the reaction if leafs added Spurgeon too small, leafs are too soft.. |

They're not giving him what he wants, which is the problem. He's clearly not backing down. |

Is that what you'd do if you were Dubas? Just pay him whatever he wants?
serious question. |

(frank) him then. He can play hockey someplace else..
You don't (frank) with the Leafs.. You don't (frank) with the Yankees, Cowboys, Lakers etc...
So if he want's more than the Leafs think he's worth no team will offer sheet him or sign him after he sits out for 2 years... The NHL is very profitable and from a business standpoint you don't bite the hand that feeds. Leafs have 100% of the leverage. |

Well if they added a Spurgeon they have him and Gardiner for this season..then they have Spurgeon for 5 mil for another season as Marleau and Horton’s contract comes off.
But yep it’s pretty dumb. Size is great...but at this stage in this sport it’s just a surplus. You have to move the puck quickly in this league. |

How upsetting will it be for the haters that Gardiner is the guy lost to the cap crunch and not Nylander, Marner or Matthews? |
