I would absolutely play Buchnevich tonight
I understand the point about trying to get the same lineup in finally but I dont want to risk losing Buch, he'll be motivated playing Ovechkin too |

C'mon, McLeod did his job taking a high stick to draw a double minor. Keep him in the lineup to take a stick to the face every night. |

He actually was fine last night in limited minutes. I don’t expect Buchnevich to be in the lineup tonight, barring an unreported injury |

the Pack play tonight, friday and saturday
after tonight, the Rangers are off until sunday
I think Andersson plays these 3 games for the Pack and he's done with them |

Fast on the top line, Buchnevich out and Mcloed in, Shattenkirk in the shootout did AV leave his playbook behind or has Ruff been calling all the shots? |

If a player gets benched by a second coach is it possible that the play of the player can now be questioned? Is it not the coach at that point and maybe the player needs to be better? Yes other players can be held responsible as well but Buch in particular is now here twice. Just a point. |

yeah definitely
I just don't like the idea of scratching him two games in a row, then making it so long between games he actually played
Rangers NEED Buchnevich to figure it out |

And he will, or he will sit. Quinn was very clear with him and everyone as to what he wants. If he doesn’t get it, guess what, you will watch, plain and simple. |

Buch has a ton of talent. Just does not have great board play or go into the dirty areas or in front of the net. Quinn likes fast in your face hockey. AV liked fast ballerina hockey. Big difference. Hope Buch figures it out. |

this team can't score and Buch is as close to we have to a sniper
Quinn needs to figure out how to get the most of out of him
hopefully if tonight is also a scratch then he plays sunday and becomes a regular part of the top 6 |

“I think we’re all born with a certain amount of guts,” Quinn said. “To me, a lot of that is genetics. We’re going to do our best to make every guy play as hard as they are genetically born to play with. To me, that’s what it is. I don’t know how hard these guys are capable of playing, but we’re going to find out.
“One thing I like to tell guys with a lot of skill is, ‘I’m not asking you to run around and kill people; what I’m asking you to do is be physical enough and hard enough to allow your skills to influence the game. That’s what I’m looking for from skill guys. You look at Crosby, MacKinnon, McDavid — those guys are inside. They get inside people. And people get enamored with their skill and their speed and they should, but there’s also enough of a grit element to their game where they’re able to be productive offensively.”
“It’s that fine line,” Quinn said about Buchnevich’s confidence and psyche. “You don’t want to teach people it’s OK not to play hard no matter how old you are. I think everybody, all these guys, think they try hard. It’s not like they go out there thinking they’re not trying hard. Well, I think the biggest thing for guys as they get older is changing the definition of what trying hard is. I think he’s not unlike any 23-year-old. He’s got to continue to work on that. And he is. He’s not consciously coming out there thinking he’s not going to try hard. I think it’s just a process for every young player and I think it’s a major hurdle for a lot of young players, to change your definition of what hard work is.”
Pretty clear what he wants and what Buch has to do. Compete, engage, go to the dirty areas when need be, play with much effort consistently, shoot the puck etc. if he does that, he plays. If not, he sits. |

Jan, I appreciate the blogs and always understand the point of view you try to present. But Marc Staal is not fine. He's terrible. He should be scratched forever. - tomburton99
Your opinion, and when I think he hasn’t played well, I call it out. But I don’t let recency bias or my views on a player cloud my writing on a specific game. Have to separate the two. |

He alomst cost them the game last night because a decade into his career he can't figure how to help his partner when 2 guys go to the net. |

He was the guy covering the 2 in front of the net, wasn't he? Or are you talking about a different play?
I try to call it like I see it, and I didn't think Staal was all that bad last night. Perfect? Of course not. But, I haven't seen anything to make me think they are going to sit $5.7M in the press box on a regular basis.
He made some good plays. Blocked shots, stepped up to keep plays alive in the O zone.
His play 2 years ago was horrific, but he doesn't too often look like that guy these days. |
