Jan Levine: Game 5: EDM 2 NYR 1, Offense invisible again, officiating hurts in loss
Blueshirts fall to 1-4 - airjan23
I am still livid. The Rangers were actually controlling the play through 40 mins...but the refs giving the Oilers 3 powerplays in the 3rd and missing an obvious call that led to the sequence of the game winning goal was the difference. The Rangers lost all momentum and rhythm from being on the PK half the 3rd period.
Yea the offense needs to score more but if the refs called the right damn penalties this team should be 3-2 right now instead of 1-4 IMO

Usually I try not to blame refs but the Rangers have deserved a little better so far this year.
The good news is I don't think this team is as bad as a lot of people think. They are playing hard and Hank looks solid so far. Not a good sign for the pro tank people - TPC
How so? Considering they've lost to the likes of Buffalo and Edmonton. They have yet to play a complete game. When they don't score they defend well. When they score they can't stop anybody. |

Went to the game. They were good in the first half and showed some aggressive play. Couple of posts by Zib and some bad calls and non calls but that’s the way it goes some times. No momentum in the third at all.
Some guys invisible again.
Get used to these games. Gonna be all year.
Oh and my eyes were glued to McDavid for most of his shifts. The puck seems to find him like it does all great players. And when he gets it, he makes things look so simple. A little head movement or shimmy of the body and you don’t know where he’s going. The kid is special. |

Did Dolan not contribute to a referees union fund or something?
This is at least the 5th non-called penalty on the puck in as many games. If the refs are not looking at the puck, what are they watching out there?
Normally they miss a call away from the puck here and there or the penalty is debatable. Eventually they balance out and the breaks go your way but it's frustrating to watch a guy get mauled from behind with the puck or someone like McQuaid go down right in front of the net from a high stick and no one raises an eyebrow |

The officiating has been brutal predominantly against them this season, with the worst calls coming in three games, in costing them 1 lost point minimum in each vs. the Preds, Sabres, and Oilers yesterday.
At worst, their record should be 1-1-3, to as high as 4-1-0 in contrary, as a result of just the most brutal of the refs' decisions against them, all which immediately seconds later, resulted in the game's deciding goal they allowed.
**Game 1: The non called Fiala high stick to McQuaid's head in front of Hank in the 3rd, leading instead to a face off in deep & Subban's deciding goal within a few seconds after it. (Preds added an E.N. Goal, prior to Buch scoring with about 0:30 left, for a 3-2 Rangers loss.)
**Game 2: Sabres decisive 2nd goal scored with too many men on ice in 4 on 4 play, that instead should have initially been a Rangers power play, resulting in a 3-1 loss (with Sabres E.N. Goal). Also, Berglund was not penalized for his shoulder hit to Chytil's head, which sidelined Chytil a number of shifts that game in having to leave the ice.
**Game 5: Two missed calls within 10 seconds on one sequence, committed by the Oilers in a 1-1 game in the 3rd. (Garrison pulling down Hayes, followed by Yaramoto pulling down Namestnikov.) The result in ONLY Namestnikov "SOMEHOW" being penalized, led to the Oilers power play GWG in a 2-1 Rangers loss, instead of a Rangers power play in a tie game for either Garrison's or Yaramoto's action. |

By your comment, you only watched their 8-5 loss to Carolina, the only game they deserved losing. The Oilers 2-1 G.W. power play goal with they having a whole 27-24 SOG advantage, came as the result of either of two initially uncalled Oilers penalties within 10 seconds of each other, and incorrectly penalizing Namestnikov instead at the end of the same sequence. Chytil missed a "give me" opportunity to tie the game, but Zib earlier had 2 shots beat Talbot clean that struck goal posts, preventing a hat trick and leading to a likely Rangers win.
In their 3-2 opening loss, they out shot a likely Western Cup Finalist in the Preds 36-32, losing the game in the 3rd after an uncalled high stick to McQuaid's head resulted instead a few seconds later off the ensuing face off in deep, to Subban's go ahead decisive goal. They dominated Buffalo 44-28 in SOG, but lost 3-1 with the E.N.Goal to a nemesis in Carter Hutton stoning them, as well as the refs in key on their 2nd & deciding goal in having too many men on ice not called. They came back late to tie & defeat the Sharks 3-2 in OT, for a second Western Cup Final Favorite.
So how have "THEY NOT PLAYED A COMPLETE GAME YET" effort wise???
To also claim "WHEN THEY SCORE, THEY CAN'T STOP ANYBODY", pertains only to their Carolina loss. They have scored more than 2 Goals in ONLY THAT ONE GAME with Georgiev in net.
In their other 4 games, the team led mainly by Hank in goal, has allowed 2 goals against in EACH when not including the opposition's late Empty Netters. |

Buffalo and Edmonton only scored only 2 goals each in those respective games, with their winning goals coming directly a few seconds after missed penalty calls on both. That cost them at least 1 point lost in each game, as it did in the opening game vs. the Preds, where they scored A WHOLE 1 MORE goal in a 3-2 loss.
Why is that important in addition to greater than the lost points in the standings?
If this bad trend should continue, whether in additional games it is affected or not by the officiating, you hope that their younger players do not become frustrated to the point that it will affect their play and development. Quinn has a lot to do in preventing that from happening. |

Saver baby, they Rangers only scored 7 goals in the games they've played not against Carolina. Do the math what is 7/4? Is it less then 2? I think it is. Saver baby, enjoy.
