Drafted Jokihardman in the 14th round as a shot in the dark because he had to be better than Manning/Gustafsson/poopholes.

If the Leafs are 8 - 2 or so after 10, Willy might want to tell his agent to get a bridge deal done. No more (frank)ing around at that point. I understand people have different priorities, and don't blame Nylander for doing his best to obtain financial security for his future. But he will be left in the dust at some point, and it will be easy for Dubas to trade him and say "We thought we could sign everyone, we were wrong. Have to pivot in another direction now."

And also, is Trouba a pending UFA? If so see if you can work out a Gardiner/Trouba trade. If both are going to walk to new teams soon it might be beneficial to give each defence a switch. Bump Hainsey down to more manageable minutes as well.

Gardiner was on the top PP all last year and Rielly/Matthews were relegated to purgatory. Not a shock people assumed Gardiner would still be the PP QV.

Damn.. I just had to check my league (16 ppl)

Rielly went 7th round 3rd pick so I guess 99th Overall if I mathed right.

Sadly I was 2 picks later and planned on picking him after realizing he was still available. But just missed out.

Can't believe he dropped that low, especially since 95% of the people in my pool are Leaf fans.

Scoring train left the station
Defense train hasnt left it

Team has dejavu from last year and will run into same old problems. Their only chance to playoff success is drawing easier opponents than last year’s first round.

I love the scoring but im not buying into the hype that this team, 95% of which is the same as last years, is somehow going to get to the finals and win a cup. Especially when the D core isnt even slightly improved.

Moves to shore up the back end must be made, and better earlier than later. Hopefully a meaningful trade happens prior to Christmas, and Nylander returns as well.

1 thing i do like, although its too early to call it a success, is the new 4th line. (as well as Kapanen with Matthews)

Why would Winnipeg want Gardiner at 6+ mil per year instead of Trouba?

Why do you assume Toronto can even afford Trouba?

I mean its a nice EA Sports NHL 2019 trade, but still. Toronto cant spend more than 4-5 mil on someone to replace Gardiner, assuming they sign both Marner and Matthews.

Financial security for his family!? He probably has over $48 Mil on the table.......and the extra is going to help with that security!? Uh, yeah ok. Bottom line, he can ask what he wants, he just has to realize he will price himself out of Toronto, and I think most Leaf fans are ok with that, if it’s the case. On another note, I really don’t think there is a team in the league that will give him over $8Mil.......not a chance.

Honestly man, if a player wants to squeeze more out of their team, I can't fault him for it. I think I would personally be fine with accepting less to keep a team together, but I've never stared at a piece of paper that states I'm willing to forgo millions of dollars.
