Apparently, the Predators raised a WC "Regular Season" Champs banner tonight in an official ceremony

Then, I saw this on Twitter

Wow, nice little giveaway by the Preds for their home opener tonight.

I think Michael Del Zotta in Vancouver should be a trade target

Pass, he’s not that good. At best he’d be #7 once Murphy and Forsling are healthy. MDZ was a healthy scratch tonight against Carolina.

Powers just tweeted that Fortin was recalled to be an emergency forward and will likely be sent to Rockford after Thursday.

The opponents have had a fairly easy time exiting their d-zone except when the Toews line is on the ice. One thing Fortin does well is use his speed to forecheck which gives the opposing d-men less time to make the first pass to exit the zone and another thing he does well is use his speed/quickness to disrupt and challenge passes. I would put Fortin with Schmaltz and Kane and let him be a disruptive force so Schmaltz and Kane gets more time n the o-zone to create - especially since Saad isn't doing much.

Really interesting to see he was the first one called up. I know it's just an emergency but it means something to the team and player.

I heard Highmore was going to get the call first if he picks up where he left off last year in Rockford. They were really happy with him, especially how he finished camp.

Like both sets of lines.

You're doing ahl recaps here and there, right? I appreciate your work and observations, if I got my people right. I'm trying to learn/remember. Is Fortin playing on the same line as Sikura? It would be nice if that chemistry in the ahl is kept in the nhl.

Thanks, Breadman.

I'll try to do Hogs recaps, maybe not after each game but we'll see. This past weekend was tough with the Hawks and Hogs playing both Saturday and Sunday. I'm just one fan so hopefully others can share their observations as well if they have time to watch.

For the Hogs, Sikura is playing 1st line with Highmore and Nilsson.

Schroeder has been with Louis and Ejdsell.

Tyler Sikura has been with Fortin and Broadhurst.

Knott has been with Noel and Samuelsson.

I understand. Thanks for this. I thought Fortin would be a second liner, maybe first. Love that fourth line though. I wonder why they got off to such a rough start? Maybe Stan might get some ahlers if the losing trend continues. Hogs and hawks are never on the same page.

His (Fortin) speed/size would be a welcome addition on the forecheck. Martinsen not doing much, but maybe that is due to his back issues. Kunitz is totally done and taking up a spot.

No worries. I enjoy recapping since it gives me an opportunity to share something new to the boards. Many of us thirst for more updates on how prospects are developing and the stories you read on the Blackhawks website or other sites tend to be the PR version where they just share stats without any analysis or honest assessments.

By no means am I an expert, just a garden variety fan/armchair GM who wants to contribute info for fellow posters to read (or not read if that's not their jam).

Btw, here are the defense pairings Colliton has used so far:

Campbell - Dahlstrom
Snuggerud - Raddysh
Carlsson - Tuulola

Hillman and Gilbert have been the healthy scratches. At some point they're going to need to play regular minutes so not sure how that's going to work especially if Forsling joins the fold to get back in to game shape after his DL stint.

Pelletier and Iacopelli have been the healthy scratches at forward but one of them will slot in now that Fortin is recalled to Chicago.

I'm excited for Fortin because he's like Hino in his speed, but finishing/playmaking abilities ???? your guess is as good as mine. That's why I want him to have a chance. He got less of a look than the other 2 you named. Sikura NEEDS Rock. Highmore, I liked his game a lot, I know what he brings and am excited for him. Fortin is an experiment that I don't see being a permanent fixture either.

What's going on with him?
Maybe Gravel will turn out to be a good pick.

Justin, I am not sure about the rules, but is there a limited amount of times a player can be called up/down in a season? Maybe Fortin was called up because the team knew it was just for a game, and they didn't want to burn a callup for Highmore for 1 game? Just trying to reason why Fortin vs. Highmore. OR, maybe I am reading too much into it?

There's a certain amount of times, each team has a set amount. Emergency basis are different I think. If you get called up you can stay up like Kampf last season.

I don't know. Powers has reported on Peeters a lot in the past, maybe he'll have more details later today.

Yes good skating = agility + core

His skating is to rigid and upright; thus rending his core as less effective; yes he is 6'3" but so is Ovie. That is why gets knocked off the puck easily for a big guy. Pay attention to his stop and starts and/or tight turns (only seen clockwise tight turns so far. As a righty assuming right footed, tight turns counter clockwise should be easier.

That said, he should be in the bottom 6, likely 3rd line because he does have a good shot and can snipe. And I stated before, either Hayden plays himself up to a top 6 or back to the Hogs or game day scratches. He might be their best bottom 6 goal scorer now.

- D2D

Agree on the first part. Hayden needs to bend his knees a bit more to be a more effective power skater.

A player usually has a preferred direction to turn. But in the show his read on the play dictates which way to turn and he better be proficient no matter which direction he goes.

No problem, I just wish I knew the number to tell you more. I think each team has a set amount of emergency call-ups as well. Don't know that number either.

I didn't mean it as a question, it was rhetorical. Haha, sorry.

Thanks though. If there is a problem or if he is just a bust, I would like to know.

You are correct in that defense dictates which way an offensive player should turn...I should have made myself clearer. When Hayden coming down the right side, he doesn't do a tight turn but rather a stop/pause as opposed to coming down on the left side, I have seen him do a tight (said loosely as he is no Kuznetsov) counter clockwise turn. It could be just as simple as him favoring his forehand.
