I hope Pickard makes it through waivers.
Sparks over Mcbackup was the easy choice at this point |

Wonder if Babcock wanted Marnincin for PK and what not as some size.. or just so he can sit in the press box maybe |

I don't know about that, pretty sure they let in the same amount of goals.

I think Marincin is still behind Rosen and Borgman on the depth chart. I wouldn't worry about him playing too much..
Freddy the goat made the team... Which I thought was a little surprising |

This is a Dubas decision, not Babcock. Pretty positive anyways..

Gotta be that.
That way they have someone completely useless sitting all season instead of someone they want to get better and play more. |

Flyers have 5 goalies for 4 spots...they aren't claiming anyone unless they have a long term injury |

Read something interesting lately where the author proposed that we just roll 3 centres. Still ice two wingers on the 4th line but rotate in the freshest of our big 3. The big 3 all play 18-22 minutes.
Keep Marincin for PK and sheltered usage / rest Hainsey in games with multiple goal leads. Sounds good on paper. |

Yeah I get the feeling part of it might be just they’d rather have Marincin sitting not playing then Rosen Borgman sitting and not getting any ice time. Goat another Center is probably the only reason he stuck around and Lindholm is pretty unknown at this point |

Why. He is not an NHL defenseman. Why not use an actually NHL defenseman. |

Sounds good, except the NHL doesn't have a "mercy" rule.. If we are winning 7-1, we can't just put Marincin on the ice, to give the other team a chance. |

Plus, once Nylander signs, I have to assume Marincin is the one placed on waivers |

In front of a Marlies team who all played horrible. No effort from anyone in any of their games whatsoever.
He would look better with the Leafs lineup in front of him, obviously that's just my opinion. |

McCulloch basically questioned why you need a 4th line center (not all season, just pick your times).
Basically Kapanen and Johnson switch in with Ennis/Leivo and Brown at full strength, pk'ing etc.
Then you have Marincin as a PKer. He argued, it could also save Hainsey a bit.
Interesting idea, but doubt they go that way. |

Sparks has bad rebound control and bad decision making. The guy is just never going to be a solid nhl backup.
Can see mcbackup clearing waivers (league knows he wants to stay in toronto) so i can understand that decision to some extent - but definitely a bad decision to keep sparks over pickard. |

I agree, at 5 on 5 he is a below average defender.
On the PK, he's probably better than half our top 6 though. Better than Z. Better than playing Hainsey 25 minutes a night until he drops dead. This is probably just because he's tall and plays with a long stick, but we're talking about 7-8 minutes a night of usage.
The argument was in having a PK defender over a 4th line centre when you have 2 guys that are #1 centres and another that would be on a weaker team. |
