Hynes said Gryba brings a physical element no one on the team has. I guess he is poor mans Volchenkov? Sure would be nice to have an aggressive, hitting Dman again, feels like its been forever.
- Leniwm1

Volchenkov at one point was a legitimate NHLer. Gryba is a poor mans Mark Fraser.

I actually really liked Fraser AND Fayne.

I feel like when they played a safe, simple game they were good.

Sorry if I already missed this conversation but why wouldn't the Devs pick up Z. Smith off waivers and then the next day pick up DEA?

Because we already have a Smith. 2 would be too many, even for Rututootoo.

in jest.. mostly.. because Smith was never a Penguin and Dea was?? idk. Smith is a center, right? We're kind of set down the middle (hopefully) with Hischier, Zacha, Zajac, Boyle.

Gryba sucks. Sure we need someone to be physical, but we shouldn't play a traffic cone on skates just because he can throw a hit. Not in today's game.

GOOD! please dominate the AHL game and let it transition to the big leagues. .. apparently the same with Smith.. who's apparently worse than Lovejoy and Mueller. Kid's gonna be a player, and hopefully we'll be closer to contenders next season. Gonna have to add to that D tho.

So Santini is not gonna play this season? He was very valuable in my fantasy league last year due to intangibles but I need a roster spot. Drop?

Torn on Smith, he definitely seemed like one of the six best d-men in camp but I get not wanting to rush him. With a player that young it's all about 3-4 years down the line, not this year. Seems like he has a great chance to make the team next year, and wouldn't be that shocked (depending on how Spokane and NJ do this season) to see him NJ for the last handful of regular season games and maybe even the playoffs (if we're there).

Bratt looked great last game which is huge, I thought he was largely invisibly the first few games. If the Mojo-Zacha-Bratt line can be effective that is absolutely massive for us.

Remember when we were one of the oldest teams in the league? Assuming our opening night lines are:

Hall-Nico-Palms
Mojo-Zacha-Bratt
Wood-Zajac-JQ
Coleman-Boyle-Noeson

Look at the ages on these guys:

26-19-27
27-21-20
23-33-22
26-33-25

Average age of 25 with our forward group. It's pretty crazy how much better the situation with this team is no compared to three years ago.

I'm cool with having a physical presence but uh, Gryba blows so there's that.
- Pomegrant

I don't get it. Dalton Prout brought a physical presence and we waived and traded him away. Did he blow more or less then Grayba?

And for that matter Kyle Quincey was better then Prout. Are we going in the wrong direction here?

Dustin Tokarski on waivers. He's got better numbers then Eddie Lack. We should claim him. Joseph Blandisi and Reece Scarlett also on waivers. Just saying, not suggesting.

But I wouldn't want a Quincey or a Prout right now either. It's just that most teams feel they need a 7th guy that can be physical for those "rough" match ups.

It will be fun to watch the Devils play on the big ice.

The fast guys Hall, Wood, etc. should really be able to create space.

I get that. I’m just asking was Quincey>Proust>Gryba?

I imagine they plan to give Dea a chance to earn a spot before finalizing

If Andreas Borgman is on waivers they should claim him if possible.

I think Quincey's advanced numbers were actually okay when he played with us. Prout and Gryba seem pretty much the same.

I'm not a fan. We need the preseason games to tighten things up, not throw a wrench in the mix with a bigger ice surface for a game and then get back to NHL ice when they come home. it's like a wasted game to prepare, in my opinion. you play the game so different with all that space.
