Quenneville digging the Hayden-Kruger-Martinsen line. Look for that one to possibly stick for a bit through preseason.

Also, a lot of young guys going to Colunnus for tomorrow's game.

- Justin Lowe

Be looking forward to seeing how the young guys do without their big Brothers watching over them. Preseason road games tend to be the most entertaining because the young guys let it all hang out. Sometimes maybe even stepping over the line here and there. But it separates the who has the balls and who doesn’t very early. A lot different playing a road game then it is playing scrimmage rat hockey In front of the 20,000 diehards show up for training camp festival

I think Kunitz in the locker room has an unspoken benefit, winning more cups than our core (minus the 14 year they SHOULD have won.) Kunitz's presence sends a message of, "You guys don't fly as high anymore," Kunitz brings their heads out of the clouds. He worked his butt off to win 4 cups with a couple of different teams. That's nice having, just not as a top linesman. I'll live with placeholder until a kid successfully fills the hole.

From Dietz's profile of him in the Daily Herald:

Kunitz has a winning pedigree, having played on thirteen straight playoff teams, and plenty of leadership skills. And the father of three plans on using them during camp to help young players get up to speed in a conference that's only getting better and better.

"With the age gap, you have to engage in conversation," Kunitz said. "You have to learn who your teammates are and see what they like.

"When you can come in and talk to a guy and understand where he played before or what he does, he'll be more comfortable coming to you asking questions about things that happen in the league. Or maybe it's just systems or plays you're running on the ice.

"Anytime you do that, it makes you a better team."

I'm assuming the mic Kunitz is holding?

Yeah, sounds like he plans to stake a leadership position in the room. Will be a good thing with Sharp's departure, as several of you have mentioned.

I've never been a Kunitz fan, but one thing about Kunitz, his 29 points last year on TB 4th line was better than most of the Hawks bottom 6. Only 5 Blackhawks (Kane, Toews, DeBrincat, Schmaltz, Saad) had more even strength points than Kunitz last year. His PP time was almost non-existent (He used to get 2-3 minutes a game on the PP), he got just under 12 minutes a night.

For comparison at EVEN strength...

Anisimov 72 games - 12:36 TOI/GP - he had 18 Even Strength points and his most common line-mates were Schmaltz and Kane.

Kunitz 82 games - 11:04 EV TOI/GP - he had 27 Even Strength points and his most common line-mates were Callahan and Paquette.

He is older and slower but he might still be useful in the right situations. I don't think he will get regular top 6 minutes, but with a little PP time he could still find himself in that 30-40 point range. His point scoring per minute at Even Strength has not really declined too much. He will probably help around the net and has some finish, so he might be the guy that scores some of those timely goals.

Thanks for granting the learner's curve! I noticed you cited, that's cool. I'm slowly getting a handle on the guys and gals here. Compared to all the other hockeybuzz bloggers Chicago has the most enthusiastic fans, great time to be a fan. I graduated an English major so stealing is high praise, seriously. I don't mock. I kid and I'm sarcastic every so often and I question or challenge someone's point of view. I'm not blatantly rude. Ever. You have a nice evening as well.

Thank you for sharing this. I remember a similar article a few years ago about teammates praising Toews for how he takes time to greet and talk to each person in the locker room, training room, ice, or wherever. They said he was genuine and personalized their conversation. That meant a lot to players like Carcillo who at the time was going through that difficult time after Montador passed away.

Yeah. It will be a bunch of players you think suck.
- Elbows15

I actually think its a fair assessment to say most of our players suck.

Or at least a vast majority are young/unproven, or extremely overpaid to the point where they might not suck in a vacuum but do indeed suck compared to most others making anywhere near that amount of $ at the same position.

We're a bad team. Lets embrace it and hope for the highest draft pick possible!

The NFL has become so bad i can't watch it anymore.

The rules suck. The players retire or change teams far too frequently these days. The physical nature of the game is going to be its undoing in the end. UNLESS:

The league requires its players to sign a waiver where they agree to take on the risks and play the game the way it was meant to be played. Hard nosed. Full throttle. No letting up. No more sissy rules to (overly)protect the offenses. Let the guys go out there and kill eachother. If nobody has a problem with what athletes are doing to eachother in the UFC(which is just as bad if not worse), then why the hell should anyone care? If guys wanna go out there and scramble their brains to the point where it dramatically shortens their life expectancy, then so be it. Just have them sign.

I have no problem giving up two #1's for Mack (- he's a beast) - by Pace to offset his brutal trade up for a bust QB. Mitch looked like the 2nd coming of Cutler last night...meanwhile Mahomes is lighting it up for the chiefs. I wouldn't get too excited about a win over a really bad Seahawks team.

Meanwhile the Hawks have a game tonight...I'm really interested to see how the new PP is. I couldn't believe it this morning when I read an article saying they actually did something about the horrid/stale PP...(Ikeane mentioned this earlier in the thread)...going to the Caps 1-3-1 whether it does anything remains to be seen. But at least there's an attempt - something the coaching staff hasn't done in recent memory.

Jack, you are the ultimate Hawks fan buddy, but let’s face it, most including myself, think that if and if the Blackhawks do happen to get next years number one overall pick, which the consensus is Jack Hughes, Stan Bowman will screw that one up too,He’ll opt to draft some 5 foot seven and 150 pound forward that is lighting up Johnny’s icehouse Monday night C league on the score sheet.
Three Stanley cups we could thank mostly Dale Tallon and believe it or not even Mike Smith before him.
I would like to see them be competitive at least to a point where when you go to a game you’re not finding yourself walking around the concourse looking for something to do halfway through the game or leaving at the start of the third.
I got a believe that the general manager has a short leash on him this season. And until they get another hockey guy in there that actually has played the game in the National Hockey League to evaluate talent and run the show, it’s going to be what it is. That’s just my take and one man’s opinion on it that is all.

You do have to give him a bit more time. Mahomes had a year under real coaches. I don't think you'll know on MT until a year or so in the system. That said, he should show some improvement as the season goes on.

He was under Fox and Loggins last year, that seems like a waste.

I'm not saying he's the second coming of Brady, he may very well be a bust in the end, just think you have to give him some time, most QBs need it.

So Jack Hughes at 5'9 160 would fit right into Bowman's MO, would he not?
