In the top 10 players by faceoff win percentage, only Giroux (who was third) can be characterized as a superstar. Vermette and Beagle (2nd and 4th respectively) can not be considered anything near stars. At the end of the day, scoring is way more important. Faceoffs only matter if teams can do something after a won faceoff, and thats an entirely different skill all together |

Possession is important. Face offs are one way to gain possession. Therefor. Face offs are important. My opinion anyways
Nice article! I feel like you looked at it from many angles and wrote a detailed blog. Which is refreshing for this site. |

Given that the Lightning's PK is weak, faceoffs is an overlapping area that needs improvement.

5 vs 5, I don't believe faceoffs are all that important.
With the man advantage, faceoffs are VERY important. Winning a faceoff on special teams can be a valuable 20 second swing. Per powerplay you usually have 2 chances. 40 seconds can make or break a powerplay. While the bolts have Stamkos and Miller for the powerplay, they currently do not have someone who can win faceoffs for the PK.
Cirelli may be the answer. He was an excellent faceoff man in the OHL and AHL, I'm willing to give him a chance to adapt to the NHL. In the limited games he played last year he wasn't good enough. |

On the dot or overall performance? I think he did everything and a bit more for what to expect from a 21-year old call up.
If we was bad at faceoffs though i have no clue. |

On the dot. I believe he was around 43% in NHL faceoff . I loved everything else about his game.

Agreed. When playoff time rolls around, the good draw guys get a lot of attention. PP and PK are so important in the playoffs. I wonder if anyone takes into account the numbers for only draws that take place in the nuetral zone? I feel that a lot of the guys mail it in a bit because the don’t have much of a impact. |

Team face off % does mean much. But your best players face off % has more impact in the game. First, if they lose the face off, they lose it against the best players, guys who can drive play and score. Second, if they win the face off, they are the best at putting it in the net. |
