I just don't understand it. He said he felt a little worn out coming out of all star break because he was used an insane amount (obviously not an exact quote). His play started deteriorating a bit. The lightning weren't just sneaking into the playoffs by any means. Why wouldn't they have started to give him more rest later in the season to keep him fresh for the playoffs?

I wasn't a fan of them playing him so much as it was obvious he was wearing down but I think the Lightning did it because he had only played like maybe 70 total games the three prior seasons. Now he knows what to expect, I think they will dip his starts down to below 60 this year if they trust Domingue but they also know they can ride him like a horse if they have to. The Bolts in front of him in the second half also took the foot off the gas so to speak which didn't help him either as he learned to become a full time starter.
