Great contract. Great number for a solid #1, which he is right now and have time to improve. If he regresses, its not an albatross either. |

Like the deal. In 8 yrs it will look like a steal if it doesn't already. |

Lol
He’s not top 3
Vasi
Murray
Jones
Lundquist
Bobrovski
ALL Ahead of Gibson.
Hell I’ll put Quick ahead of him just because he’s played more in the last few years with the same numbers Gibson has had in less games.
8 years is a bad deal for a goalie made of glass. Kings at least signed quick and they actually won 2 cups since then. I doubt Gibson wins a cup with that mess of a lineup currently, especially if they can’t rid themselves of those terrible contracts in the next 3-4 years. |

You can likely add a number of other names to your list. Just for kicks I did a search of starting goalies and Hockey News had him listed 15th out of the 31 teams.

I expect nothing less from a Kings fan. And this is playing behind Juice and Beauch and with Hampus having one arm for half the year. Without JG the Ducks would've been in the lottery last year.
The 25-year-old had a career year for the Ducks last season, posting a .926 SV% (2nd amongst regular starters), and a 2.43 GAA. He finished 2nd in the league amongst regular starters in GSAA (how many more goals he saved compared to a league-average goaltender) with a whopping 32.51.

Don't want to sound like Ryan Wilson, but goaltending is simply overrated... especially in the Pacific SV% is easy to tune by 0.1 and more... even Flower had a career year! |

Goalie made of glass. Oh and his playoff numbers aren’t excellent either, But I don’t expect a ducks fan to know much about that either |

Murray is 24 and already won 2 Cups. How many of those goalies you're praising have accomplished this? |

After 1/1/18 of last year he had a GAA of 1.95 and save % of .930 or so. He's 25 with plenty of room for improvement.
Quick turns 33 in January. He'll be 37 in his contract year.
Gibson turned 25 in July. He'll be 33 in his contract year (same age as Quick now).
Speaking of injuries, which goalie blew out their groin the first game of the season a couple of years ago and missed 3/4 of the season?
Speaking of bad contracts, have you looked at your roster lately? Two Cups in 50 years and you think the team is all that. |

Gibson led the league at 1.95 and .937 after the all-star break. He pretty much put the team on his back and carried them to the playoffs. When he's on, he's as good as anyone. At 25 he's just heading into his prime years. The closest comp this year is Hellyebuck at 6 years $6.2M, and whether you agree or not, the Ducks thought Gibson should have been a Vezina finalist this year, so they're paying what they think he's worth. I'm not a fan of the 8-year term, but the cap hit is a steal if he comes close to performing at the same level as last season. |
