I've always hated the Bruins and always will, but "nifty" was a very good under rated player, he deserves to have his number retired, he was a class act.

Middleton got 19 points in 7 games against my Sabres in the 82-83 playoffs. He was one hell of a player.

For a split second as I read the title, I thought I was going to see "retiire Rick..." Nash. Almost spit beer on my monitor, but caught myself.

Me too, Brian, regarding the worst trade the Rangers likely ever made in their entire history, back in May of 1976, in trading a very young & prized 1.5 years played, potential star player, (and later as still today, the biggest Hockey Hall Of Fame snub ever), for an older veteran who's best days were already long behind him.
And except for the trade agreement & sign off, it was all due to Phil Esposito originally & constantly demanding since becoming a Ranger via a huge trade in Nov. of 1975, for them to "Get Me Ken Hodge", to "Get Him The Puck" again in the slot, as Wayne Cashman also did for him in those Bruins seasons as their top line.
The ironic thing was that Hodge's Rangers career only lasted just shy of 100 games through the 1977/78 season, after arriving for both Espo's second season, and first full one as a Ranger. However, it was rookie, Don Maloney's arrival in the 1978/79 Cup Finals season who succeeded longer in doing the dirty work in the corners to get Espo the puck, and have Espo's Rangers career last successfully through the 1980/81 season.

I thought they would be retiring it for Marco Sturm.

In my "hockey aware" years, the Bruins have retired 3 numbers, and those were within 4-5 years of eachother. I always knew Nifty would be the next one up there, glad it's finally happening.

Side note, at the winter classic alumni game @ Gillette Stadium, I saw number 16 streaking up the ice, and thought "man, Middleton still has wheels". At that point i realized there were two number 16's out there, and it was indeed Marco Sturm who was flying up ice.

Looks like Middleton retired in 88. I was 6 So I don't really remember. Everyone seems on board with it though. Met him once, at a charity auction. Really nice guy!

Making commments like that, I doubt brownstar is old enough to have watched Middleton play and is faking the funk.

Apparently Tony Mazz has just dug some folks who disagree. Coming up in the next segment.

It's fascinating to me anyways. Like for me Ray Bourque's number couldn't be up there fast enough. I feel someday Bergeron should be as well. But I go back on forth on Chara.

I remember watching some of his filthy goals on the intor to Don Cherry's Grapevine. The one whe he loses the puck, kicks it back up and sweeps it around the goalie.

I'm losy at finding and posting vids if anyone knows the goal I am talking about.

I think he would be the Bruins all time shootout scorer if was around in his day.
I had a friend who ran into Middleton at a bar one time and I asked what he was like. He said "He's not a good guy, He's a great guy"
He was a guest on a television fundraiser, maybe it was the PBS auction, and he was giving out autographed pucks. The host asked how much of a donation and Middleton, humble as he was, said something like "I dunno, a dollar?" They had to up the ante on their own
I LOVED how he would score and just skate off, no showboat, all class.
Well deserved.

Your poopty comment was backhanded from beginning to end. You could've complimented Middleton and left the rest. Once again, you suck. Just like your attempt at a rebuttal. Call it a night sweet tits. You can't hang with me on my worst day, thrice concussed.
