Jordan Staal plays with bad wingers?? Are you kidding me? He played predominantly with Aho and Teravainen last season...I do agree though that Rask is a bum . |

Orpik's overrated?
I don't think I've seen much love for the guy outside of a strong playoff game or two this year.[/img] |

Yeah that career .922 sv% in the playoffs is terrible. |

The net front power play role on the Penguins is the easiest gig in hockey.
Try telling that to an NHL player. Let's see, you have 70+ mph shots coming at you and the refs typically give much leeway to the defensemen (note the plural) and even goalie for crosschecking, roughing, elbowing, and hooking you. It is a brutal role. There is a reason why few players in the league are willing to do this much - it is a good way to shorten one's career. At the same time it is essential to the success of a power play. Without it, power plays often reduce to just passing around the puck at the points and no quality shots.
Crosby actually used to do it but after his concussions and broken jaw he generally doesn't anymore. Hornqvist and Aston-Reese are the only two players on the current roster who do it. None of the other players do it regularly. True, it doesn't require a lot of skill but it does require some balls. As far as I am concerned, as long as Hornqvist is willing to continue to do this he is earning his paycheck. The moment he stops then yes, I will agree with you. |

Guentzel does net front too. He had a lot of redirection/tip in goals.
And by easiest he doesn't mean its not a tough job. He means its something an average hockey player with the right temperament can do. And for 30-50 million in career earnings its not a bad gig for an average joe. The pain of doing it is like the pain of being a laborer versus white collar work. |

The power play was 4/31 in the 12 games Hornqvist missed in the regular season last year. The power play was at 28% with him in the lineup.
His 15 PP goals were third in the league behind only Ovechkin and Laine.
And if anyone can be a net front presence, why do many teams not have an effective net front presence?

Guentzal wouldn't hold up being a net front guy for an entire season. He's simply not built for it.
I think people discount players like Hornie and Simmonds because they're not the most skilled guys, but you sure as hell miss them when you get into tight checking games where pretty passing plays don't work. I vividly remember the Penguins/Bruins series in '13 when the Penguins needed GPS to find the net.
It's almost like people think the game is always played the same way and the rules are always called by the rule book. |

It's odd how tough Kronwall is when a player is coming out of the d zone with his head down and how much of a wussy he is the rest of the time. |
