Dundee, the rebuild has been discussed repeatedly. Was bantered and battered about last season. Because the concept doesn’t work for you does not mean it isn’t the right approach. If none of the players we hoped to be available in 2019 make it there as free agents, then maybe my view will change. But I have little issue with the current approach, save for having wanted a few smaller signings to occur already.
Dolan has also announced for now he isn’t selling. Rangers made money hand over fist and not taking up collection for him. Plus the team spent for years, so finances weren’t the driver. Not about to speculate on this manner with no proof at all. Writing that the Rangers won’t spend because of Dolan selling is a click bait column for now with no real shred of evidence to back up the thought.

There is no conspiracy other than the Rangers deciding the team they had just wasnt gonna win anything. Trading assets to have a guy for on year is Late 90's early 2000 rangers bs. He may make the Rangers a playoff team who will get ousted in the first round next year, but even thats a maybe. Then youre left again with a crappy team and no assets.

At the end of the day, if Karlsson could be had a reasonable price and would re-sign, I would actually be all for it. But, the price is very unlikely to be reasonable.

"Declining" is relative depending upon your starting point. Karlsson is an elite generational defensemen. Will he decline when he hits 32-33 years old? Probably. But to what extent? Nik Lidstrom certainly declined in his mid-30s, but even while declining, he was still winning Norris Trophies.
The price will be way more than the Rangers should pay, so this whole argument is probably academic. But, if the Rangers could get Karlsson for a song, the fact that he is 28 years old doesn't scare me as much as it does you.

If they can get him now for a reasonable price, I wouldn't be thrilled but I would be intrigued to see how the season went. If they get him as a FA I will be thrilled.

To that point, that’s why it made perfect sense not to sign anyone this year because they’re not ready to compete yet. When your team is ready you gotta be in that UFA market. Next year they are gonna have to open up the check book because of the quality available and they’ll be ready to compete, hopefully

I think when you look at the free agent market a year out, it usually looks better than it does when you get closer to the end of the year. Seems like way more deals are getting done with the incumbent club before top players hit free agency. Not many high-end options have even hit free agency over the past couple of years.
