don't assume that adding a $6M salary on defense will mess the Leafs cap situation.

there's so many hypothetical situations here...

you sound like UG ... Leafs can't afford such and such...

but Tampa somehow magically can.

It seems very much by design that since the Shanaplan was implemented, paying a defenceman a lot isn't in their plans. I think it's obvious they would prefer to fill those spots from within (draft picks) and with European free agents. They've added 18 defencemen in the 4 drafts and FA periods since the Shanaplan was implemented.

I cannot see a trade for a "top 4 defenseman" happening any time soon.

No way the leafs give up Liligren for anything. Also, we need to get something for Gardner......can’t let him walk for nothing like JVR. Trade him now and max out return. Perhaps there is a fit with Klefbom.

Yes but he's a good defenceman that fulfills a dire need for the leafs and his next contract could be a lot cheaper then gardiners. Trouba is obviously the real prize

Trouba is an RFA this year and next, we are not trading him for Gardiner. You want Myers for Gardiner straight up since they are both pending UFA’s? Fine, but you lose that deal and you know it. Jets also don’t need forwards, we have plenty of options on the farm that can’t crack a spot plus we are interested to see Vesalainen in camp this year.
Talked about it yesterday, I just don’t see a fit with these teams and that’s not a knock on any of the players being bantered around. It’s more of both teams have depth up front, both are win now and neither need draft picks.

If it comes down to letting Gardiner walk at the end of the season then so be it. He's not worth 6.5 million plus annually for any term.

seems rational...

1) what do believe the fair resigning dollars would be Myers (obviously after next season)?
2) what do believe Trouba will get from the Jets?

Yes Leaf fans. The Tavares signing does have a price. Never mind paying an over the hill Tavares 11 mil for the last three years of his deal, players like Nylander and Gardiner will be saying they want to get paid. Do you blame them? FA signings suck. Always. Hometown discount? Are you serious? The Plan was on the rails and motoring along. I may be the only one but signing Tavares might have screwed the Leafs. July 1st you keep your GM holed up in a room somewhere under lock and key

can you imagine how great a signing Tavares would have been in Montreal or Tampa or San Jose?

man Tavares would have been so much better a player in those locations ... its almost unimaginable!

its amazing that Tavares (even though he hasn't played a game yet) has forgotten to hockey because he signed with Toronto, I bet he regrets it already.

I'm sure his skating will suffer, he would have been much faster in Tampa
