Just curious Bill, do you see the Flyers making any more personnel moves prior to the start of the preseason?
My guess would be no, but I'd be interested in your take on it.

I think it is possible they make a trade for a 3C but far from a certainty

Interesting, thanks.
Not sure who would be available or what the Flyers would be willing to part with to upgrade the position, but if they were able to get a solid 3C, slide Laughton down to 4C and put Lehtera in the press box, I'd be happy.

I am not expecting, but hoping a surprise happens in pre-season or later in the season where someone not expecting makes an impact to fill that 3C. Whether that be Laughton, Voroyov, Weal or even Frost. I feel the Flyers have plenty of time this year to evaluate the position before TDL if needed. |

Everyone is watching Hart this year, but my eyes will be on Rubes. I really really hope he can get back on track. |

I agree with Glak. I'd see what the in-house candidates look like in training camp, at the very least, before entertaining a trade for a 3C. |

Agreed. I don't think they HAVE to make a move for a 3C. I find it hard to believe they can't fill that role from within. |

I’d give peace a chance, not so much on Laughton. Would love to admit I was wrong, but he just hasn’t shown enough to be a 3C, and doesn’t seem to be good on the PK. He seems to be more of plug in for short term injury.
Again, I hope I’m wrong and he shines this year! |

I’ve got to take a little time. A little time to think things over.
I want to know what Laughton is.
I want him to show me. |

Bill the link to the Real Deal Hockey with Bundy and Bill actually takes you to the July19th Flyers Offseason #2. I was able to find the link to you/Bundy/Hexy via Bundy's twitter.

The Phantoms sure have a lot of forwards under contract; 18 including AHL deals. I hope that means NAK and Vecchione are going to be up on the Flyers to start the season. Bardreau could be another 4th line option, and he's not waiver exempt.

Bunnaman

Goulbourne

Huntebrinker (AHL deal)

Ok... I've seen talk/questions on; Trade before the season? Write up on where Weal fits? Laughton questionable as a 3C? And, need for a 3C.
So, package Weal and Laughton for a real 3C. For a team that sucks... This could make them deeper. For a team that is good (but cap issues)... they might be able to shed a higher salary for two reasonable ones. The Flyers would need to get a younger guy that is greater quality then either Laughton or Weal. Hell, throw a late round pick in...
Both these guys may do well with a change of local...

I can't think of any team where getting Laughton/Weal for a legit 3C makes sense. Might as well see what Laughton can do in the role this season. He may not be a great 3C in the end but I think he'll be passable for a year until Frost gets here.

Good idea.
What team/player did you have in mind? A team that is good, but has cap issues, that will give up a younger, better player than Laughton for the addition of a bottom-6 winger and a late pick...I mean, I'm all for it, I just can't think who might do this. |
