Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about that. - Elbows15
Cup, no. But what if Osterle plays a 3 or 4 role while the hawks miss the playoffs and the Dogs squeak in? Not saying it's a sure thing, but it's possible. I'm glad it wasn't Forsling. |

Does anyone really think Osterle is a 3/4. He isn't a guy that battles.

For sure on these two. If this does happen, Stralman (righty) would pair up with Keith and play at 25 min/night but not as tough on Keith as last year as Stralman is much better and Keith would not have to "babysit" as much or at all. Dont know enough about Cirelli to comment. - D2D
Cirelli is Tampa's second best center prospect after Howden - they're not going to give him up unless it's a bigger ask on the contract they need moved imo.
If Stralman is moved, it's not just a cap dump - he's a legitimately good player still and he's only signed for one more season. There are teams that would just legitimately want him on their team (MTL, TOR, SJS, DAL, COL, CBJ, ARI, etc to name a few). It wouldn't take a top 5 prospect to move him even if teams knows Tampa needs to move salary - it might lower his value for sure but they should be able to move him in a general hockey trade cause he is a desirable target. Think more Leddy trade.
They would add in a top 5 prospect to remove Callahan and maybe a top 10 one to move Giardi. |

The hawks aren’t much better then they were before the trade. Lose some scoring add another retread who may or may not be productive this year. Good news is they lose hossa cap hit and Kruger is done after this year. So at years end they net 8 million
I have no clue what the cost is to acquire Pacioretty or skinner or Faulk. Going to create holes to acquire a hole left by a Murphy or AA.
Just seems like a weird time to do this deal. Why not at the draft? Why not after the draft before 7/1?
Let’s see what Bowman’s next move is but not going to miss vinny a ton or osterle......at all. |

Better pray Carolina is not a NO
Otherwise going to take going talent to Faulk. Don’t see them taking Murphy.

Who does? Seabrook will when he can actually get there. When is the last time Keith blasted anyone in front of the net? Murphy might, but he can't keep his balance after he runs into someone. More than one defenseman has left and gone on to a different system and held their own. I'm going to keep an open mind. |

Let's play the hypothetical game...
AA, Murphy, two prospects, and a draft pick to the Hurricanes for Skinner and Faulk...
Saad - Toews - DeBrincat
Skinner - Schmaltz - Kane
Ejdsell - Kampf - Sikura
Kunitz - Kruger - Hayden
Keith - Faulk
Gus - Seabrook
Manning - Rutta
Crawford
Ward
If the kids on the third line step up this season, the defense is improved (which I think it should be), and Crawford is healthy.... this team makes the playoffs.
Lots of ifs and a lot can go wrong, but ultimately it's still a deeper team than than they were last season. |

And there it is...the questioning the timing of the deal. Maybe the price was higher for the Hawks prior to the dates you mention? Who knows.
They didn't have to give up anything higher than a 3rd, Vinny's replaceable and Oyster even moreso, so it's a win AFAIC.

Well he might have to change his number again with fellow countryman coming back home, in Krueger. I hope Ejdsell gets something out of these switches in numbers - D2D
14 will be available in Rockford. Which is where Edsjell belongs. |

This...and we got a 5th round pick back. Before the draft, someone posted a graph that showed the probability of making it to the NHL by round picked. IIRC, there wasn't much difference between rounds 3 and 5. |

Nice job spinning your negativity. Never talked about being excited, just looking for positives instead of 3 straight posts pointing out what 3 players do wrong. - gpulvino

I will sign up for the JT Miller fan club. He is a center that is big and that can make plays either with his big body or decent of skill/hands especially waiting for trailers. He is also a pass first guy would fit perfectly between Kaner and Schmaltzy. He has looked good in both stops of Rangers and Lightning - D2D
TB just extended Miller. Doubt he would be available. |

And I'm sure Bowman could get a 3rd rounder back by trading any of the glut of defensemen prospects in the pipeline now or even the stable of bottom 6 forwards in Rockford. I remember someone saying it is relatively easy to get draft picks (3rd round or later) back in later trades so giving up draft picks in a trade today is worth it. |

Are the hawks better right because of the trade? Depends on what they do with the cap space.
Kruger and vinny are 2 different players. However Kruger was on fumes here at end of 2016 and did nothing like last year and is coming off an injury. Hmmm. Last retread to be that was sharp and that was forgettable.
Sorry. Signing a higher d man then the turd manning on 7/1 with the cap space today then creating another hole when they overpay for Faulk is not a great move.
Patch one hole (d man) by creating another (depth f or center). |

Agreed. He seemed to regress after an ok start. Obviously expendable.
Can’t see them trading Murphy after 1 year. So they’ll trade AA, move schmaltz to 2c and pimp Kruger again at 3c. Could work.
They can’t afford a Hartman type setback from 8 or 13 on top of 2.7/19/20/50 all finding their previous games and staying healthy. |

If I had to choose between Faulk and Stralman, I go with Stralman. I feel the offensive acumen and PP prowess of Faulk can be had in house with someone like Gustafsson as early as this season and down the line with the eventual (and hopeful) emergence of Boqvist, Jokiharju or even Mitchell. Stralman, however, can help stabilize the top 4 and particularly the top pair as far as actual defense.
From the little I know about Cirelli, he is projected to be a very good checking center. A player like him could be a solid 3C. Current center prospects like Kampf, Johnson, and Highmore have potential but I see them as being very good 4Cs but serviceable 3Cs. And if each player is very good at their position and line, then everyone is slotted appropriately. But if players are serviceable, i.e. decent but not ideal, then that can illustrate lack of depth and certain players playing beyond their means. |

Well said.
Stralman before Faulk
Pacioretty before skinner.
They could be sitting pretty with a poop ton of cap space if they can find a taker for AA. Then you could even deal Murphy at seasons ekd
Hossa money+Kruger gone+AA money+cap increasing.
