True; I didn't even factor Hutton in because he's such an awkward comparable. They got too carried away with paying him for what they hoped he could do.
There are rules about what's admissible as evidence at arbitration hearings. If we get closer to Stecher's date without a settlement, I'll look more closely at how much of an influence Hutton's number could have. |

I have seen nothing to indicate he deserves anything more than 1.5.

The issue for me is he's accomplished what I wanted, low finishes, but he wasn't trying to finish low, he was trying to be competitive. That's why he's an idiot.

If you believe this, then you are as smart as Jimbo is articulate. |

Yes for sure. But I'd imagine a precedent within your own organization would serve as stronger evidence/example. I'm definitely just making a loose inference based on limited knowledge of how they weigh things at arbitration though. |

To be fair, I was one of very few that was not that high on Hutton after year one. He could improve, doesn't seem to have the work ethic... can't see why else Green doesn't seem to like him. |

I must admit I was in the other camp. I was high on him since his NCAA days. Gotta also admit i was very wrong & want him dealt. I do believe he can turn it around but he better be one of the fittest Canucks & prove to himself by playing himself out of it. If not he will have a short career & thats looking all too possible right now. Git er done Ben. |

My assessment of Hutton is he relied on his skating and early success & the game caught up to him. This tells me his hockey IQ or desire is lacking. Some might say he needs a fire lit under his ass. I think its more subtle than that. Get in a scrap or play mean to draw attention. Cannot play D & not be a driver of offence or his days are numbered. Vanilla too much & not enough emotion is one thing but he’s at a crossroads & needs to add more elements to his game. Rough it up.
FYI he was a converted forward
He faces more puck pressure & his shielding off of the checkers is his glaring problem |

Enough on Hutton other than puck retrieval & exiting our zone smoother & faster is a team problem needing to be much better. Its tough enough we lack scoring on D & not the most physical bunch. From there puck distribution & crisp clean passes tend to disrupt line rushes. Bo is ok driving the play. Hank was slow & methodical but gone now. Leaves us with Sutter and AG. Sutter is hardly the playmaker nor good at pushing the play with passing. AG idk yet so gets grace til he settles in if he makes the team. Linemates chemistry with JV looked promising & hopefully continues. Begs the Q who the 3rd wheel will be or be the leader of that line? EP? |

I find it funny and disturbing that everyone says Benning is great at scouting but they have trouble assessing their own talent right in front of their eyes. |

Speaking of the current roster or UFA’s?
Its nothing special yet. Many stop gap signings & a few from trades. The better question is what the line-up will look like in 2-3yrs. Who is gone or traded & who makes the team from within is difficult to project. Then onto how good those prospects become is harder yet to predict. My worry starts as usual on D & their scoring. C is always a constant hunt & never can have too many. |
