4.5 over how long? I think that plays a role in the dollar figure

He was looking for north of 5 in Raleigh by all reports I saw.

I would think Tre likes to gravitate to 6 year deals, like he did with Brodie, Hamilton, Gaudreau, Gio, everyone with exception of Monahan who got 7 years. Given Lindholms age, I am expecting 6 years, hopefully around the $28mill. I have a sneaking suspicion Hanifin gets a 7 year deal.

Curious to see how this deal works out long term. Hoping a new lineup helps Lindy and Hanifin grow, just hope the Peters factor doesn’t limit them.

That doesnt matter, Hamilton was looking for way more from Bruins when we got him & we signed him on a 6 year 5.75mill per + we had to acquire fast Freddy & pay him league minimum.

Thanks for an blog on a Saturday!

I imagine most of the fanbase is too drunk to read it.

I am hoping we can get both him and Hanafin at around 4.5.

Not saying it does. Just information I’ve seen. I don’t think he gets that. I’m really curious about their contracts though.

Big difference in how you negotiate. Treliving is a master at getting these guys to buy in to the greater good (potential Cup) by leaving meat on the table to build a complete team. Results of team have fallen short but his contracts have been great. In Carolina they havent experienced that, they have been ground down by ownership. Also keep in mind Flames are a cap team so it's easier to sell the greater good argument. These kids never experienced that in their time in Carolina. Maybe your new owner will change being a budget team but he sounds like a very hands on grinder for first impressions. But dont be surprised if both kids come in on 6 year deals at under what you thought. Both have the ability to come in & really fit well & take steps forward with their games. Its a gamble with these contracts to know how much future value to pay versus getting value.

Lindholm has largely been snake bitten so far in his NHL career. Depending on how much weight you put on PDO.

Elias Lindholm career average PDO is 96.5 while scoring at 0.5 points per game. Worst case this is the player we got and best case is his luck returns to normal and he shows real chemistry and synergies well with the Flames in the tune of 60 points this year.

Treliving's biggest strength has been negotiating our RFAs. I have no reason to believe he doesn't work his magic with Lindholm and Hanifin, too. That said, Tre has a lot of work to do since he needs to get Jamkowsk, Hathaway, and Kulak signed too, so things might be tight, but he can still move out some salary to get them all in if he has to.

Potential cup? Just so we are clear over the last three seasons, the Carolina Hurricanes in the regular season have more points than the Flames. The only difference between the two franchises are the fan bases...

Do you have any idea what's going on in Carolina? They've done a great job building their team and locking up RFAs to reasonable contracts. If Svechnikov comes in and is a stud right away, they're just as close to a Stanley Cup as the Flames are.

Missed the point, lots of teams had more points but he sells on what he is building & his vision & how important fair but cap friendly contracts can build a contender. Fck sakes, the Carolina owner met with Lindholm, his agent & the GM told the kid he's not worth anything close of what he's asking & take it or leave it.

Do you? They have been a budget team trading players that no one understands why just to shake things up. Whatever, you just dont get things, has nothing to do with who they just drafted 2nd overall, its how they are handling 21 & 23 year old 5 th overall picks.

Did you miss the part where the majority of people thought Carolina won that trade? Who else have they traded just to shake things up? They've locked up their key RFAs and traded away the ones they felt were underperforming. Spending more money usually just means you have more money to waste and make mistakes with. Does Brouwer and Stone getting the Flames $8M closer to the cap make them a better team? Who has Carolina lost because they were willing to pay someone before this offseason? This is a team who was willing to give Semin $7M for six years. They're not a budget team, they were a rebuilding team who didn't want to spend stupid money.

You have some bizarre metrics to judge player quality. Draft position means absolutely nothing at this point in their careers. The amount of physical, mental, emotional, professsional change that happens between 17 and 21 is enormous. Draft position is meaningless by the time the next season starts. Look at pretty much any draft and the order's usually way off by the next season and it just diverges from there.

Not really sure what your point is or who you're talking about. The Hurricanes and Flames were nearly identical last year, and both teams have a great shot to bounce back this year and compete for their divisions.
