Just what the Islanders need, a D man with a cumulative -109 +/-

I hope they pay up to get him!

RIP Canes. That team has become the laugh-stock and most boring franchise of the league. How can this team expect to sell tickets?! Move'em back to Hartford Bettman.

- slap_me_mongo

Ha.. you're so wrong. Look at Ottawa's franchise literally falling apart, not to mention Arizona, and even Buffalo finished last this past season. You have no clue.

The only weird thing is that Tavares moved on, but nothing you can do about it. Komarov, Filppula and Martin make your team actually stronger tbh... would love to have them on my sucky team.
- DutchSenators

I wouldn't say nothing. A trade+extension for Matt Duchene would be a decent replacement for Tavares, maybe not exactly equal but certainly good enough. I'm talking about moving forward. Gonna have to eat the fact that we lost Tavares for nothing. Also, you are right about the second part. Islanders fans (actually, everyone) needs to stop thinking Filpulla, Martin, Komarov, and Kuhnhackl were brought in to replace John Tavares and Calvin DeHaan. They weren't. They were brought in to replace Kulemin, Prince, Quine, Chimera/Wagner, and Bernier (two-way contract, I know) and I'm fine with that. We replaced Halak. It would be nice to get Duchene but if not, I hope Beauvillier slots in the 2C spot, not Nelson. Biggest need is to replace Dehaan right now and sign Pulock.

Honestly, I think your team needs to tread water for a year or two, and develop your prospects properly while hoarding more.
Then start bringing the rookies up wholesale the year before you move into the new building.
The only thing that really sucks for you guys about losing JT, is the zero return. We went through a similar thing with Sundin...sucks, but there's sfa you can do about it. I think with the trajectory the Isles are on, you'd be better off without JT the next few years anyway. He's too good to allow you a high end pick.
That said, NY has been doing pretty well with the picks they have. Get more, suck for 2-3 years, then kick ass. You're in a better spot prospect wise than TO was 3-4 years ago.

Felt sorry for the Isles over the Tavares thing. He strung them along when the Isles could have gotten some assets as a sign and trade. Instead he took less years and money to sign in Toronto, then add in their crazy taxes, plus their money is worth 25% less, and you have a royal frank job. I have no respect for Tavares anymore. Frank him. Hope he has his head on swivel this year when the play the Isles, and I’m a fan of a rival team.

I’ll take your word for it on the American Dollars thing. However, the cost of living is still much higher, and a sign and trade would have given the Leafs an extra year, but more importantly some assets back to the Isles. The main point was, he screwed the Isles who have been nothing but straight up w him. He knew what he was doing. That just annoys me.

I agree/disagree. As an Isles fan, I hate JT for what he did. As a lifelong hockey player/fan, I get it. He screwed us with his loyalty talk, but what was he supposed to say. We lost the gamble of resigning him, and that's on Snow. Now, we look forward, and build around Barzal.

Yeah, it's really disappointing how he handled it but the former management is also at fault for not assuring either an extension or assets. That being said JT stab was a dagger to the heart. Snow's was not surprising and more like yet another stab by a plastic butter knife...

First off, I'd like to thank you for your mature and civil response. Too often the comments on here sound like they are from 13 year olds, lol. To your point, honestly I think either way, the team will be good this season with a few more tweaks to the roster. We should have been much better. However, weak defense, penalty kill, goaltending, coaching, and managing torpedoed the season. I think we've improved all but the first one. So far with losing Dehaan, the defense is weaker but I'm still confident some sort of trade will address this. We had no problem scoring goals last season, I still think we will score plenty. If the defense can be solidified, I have confidence that the (much, much, much) more seasoned coach will tie it all together much better. I'm content with our prospect pipeline to develop and start supplementing the roster very soon. But once again, I appreciate your words of encouragement!

He could have privately told Isles management his intentions, and helped them get the most for his rights, or as a sign and trade. He didn’t, drug it out til the last second, then headed north to TO. For that, I’d wait til he had his down, and make him pay for it. All he had to do was be honorable. He wasn’t. And by the way, Snow really crapped the bed. Better off w Uncle Lou.

Losing Dehaan will hurt...but very minimally. He's an amazing player if the injuries didn't come. Having said that, he's not worth the 4+ contract Carolina gave him. I hope for him he can plays 82 games a year...but I don't see it happening. As for our D, ummmm, we need a #1. Should we get Faulk, that will help, but we aren't a playoff team with this D. Unless Lehner can carry this ???
