Honestly Tavares would be a fool to sign a one year deal

Hawks trade hossa's contract and AA 2022 1st to the islanders because Tavaras is not going sign back with them . so islanders will be looking for centers they have the money to cover it . then sign jvr to a big contract and dehann. Its an hypothetically but would the hawks be looking to get back.

Seems to me with the cap going up a good chunk this year, our recent contracts will start looking better and better. Seabs at $7m don't look as bad with Doughty at $11m. AA at $4.5 (?) looks like a bargain against some of the reported centers that are looking at $5.5m. I think that was always the plan starting w Toews/Kane at $10.5, but the flattish cap for last few years has slowed the contract growth around the league

If the league and teams are staffed with good business people - they won’t assume that this year’s almost $5MM cap increase will be the future norm.

But - the reason there is a cap at all is because the owners can’t control themselves and hand out contracts they can’t afford - so who am I kidding.

I think the smart people will just know they can't predict the short term, but league revenue has been growing approximately 7% on average over the last dozen years or so. I'd think that is a good baseline to plan around or be conservative and assume maybe 4-5%.
