I'm happy with Boqvist, but I'd be a lot happier if he didn't have those concussions.
I really don't understand their second pick. I didn't see a list that had Veleno outside the top 15, and he fell into their lap at 27! I get that he is protected to be, at best, a 2C, but he is also an almost sure thing. Plus, the Hawks NEED center depth. They had the highest ranked player remaining, who plays a position they desperately need, and they passed on him.
It's not that I don't think Beaudin could be good to great, it's that I think Veleno could have been the 2C we've been looking for for years. |

I thought Veleno was going to be their pick when he was still on the board... but happy with Beaudin. The kid has a ton of skill and amazing hockey sense (both he and Boqvist are lights out in that dept.). |

I actually love the picks because it gives Chicago depth chips to trade from. One has to consider anyone not named Johikaru or Boqvist are leveragable assets.
Because fact is that this team is in need of an upgrade a 3 positions: #2 goalie, top 4 defenseman, and a 2-3 center who can win draws. And not all of these positions can be solved via free agency.
So unless the Blackhawks want to dance in mediocrity next year, there needs to be some player trades made. |

I'll be honest, I was taken back because I wanted and heard that Wahlstrom was their pick.
But the more I thought about it... I'm super happy to have a talent like Boqvist now in the system. Even if he is 3 years away. Let him grow, add some muscle and play in Sweden for a few years and then he will be a weapon for them on the backend. - Justin Lowe
and I think the add of muscle for Nicolas Beaudin helps add another gear, so yeah, really nice restock...
We were all want the picks to reflect loft standards, and I hear from so many guys, will so snd so be playing in20120? will he be better than (fill in the blacks) ?
No one can make that assessment.
Like Beaudin he can commit to adding the muscle, and there is high mark, some say a T J Brodie type... |

Booooooo
I was hoping we would be in play, and if not, that he'd play in the Eastern Conference. |

Kovalchuk was holding up some players on the trade front. I expect a couple moves in the next couple of days. |

Boqvist great pick. With Beaudin obviously Hawks knew lots about Veleno and chose Beaudin - played on same team Drummondville’

Button almost nailed it, dropped Veleno to #28 in his final list: https://www.tsn.ca/craig-...-on-second-spot-1.1103996
He also has Beaudin quite high, at #20 |

Kovalchuk deal is three years with an AAV of $6.25M. Same as Patrick Marleau.
As expected. He was looking for Marleau money. |

I know there has been a lot of chatter (disappointment) in the first two picks of smallish D men and how they would lose 50/50 battles with and without the puck. I would refer/remind them of someone well-known, in Duncan Keith. While slight, most of his D work is done is the offensive zone followed by the neutral zone, then holding up the D zone blue line with good reads (albeit cheating reads sometimes) followed by great edges and stick work. Yes, they might lose their fair share of board and front of the net battles but I am willing to risk the upside of their skating and skill game, offensively and defensively.

Ulf Samuelson SON fits this mold. Projected first round. Committed to Western Michigan collegiate. The best of Ulf Samuelson three sons
Btw
Another son finished season and playof strong. That son was a first round bust.....but showing good signs as power forward. They want to retain him on a Rockford contract. He is insurance in the muscle dot.
Other: I guess that.Justin and maybe no one saw enough if Tuulola to give an early line on his performance....he was added and stayed in playing lineup withoit North American experience. |

From the Hawks live blog...
Chicago Blackhawks selected Jake Wise 69th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
The center registered 11 goals and 32 assists in 38 games with the U.S. National U-18 Team in 2017-18. That included nine goals and 19 assists in 18 USHL contests.
