That should be fun. An early test for Jonathan Toews matching up against the big boy Matthews and the (hopefully) revamped defense core vs the Leafs high flying offense

Looking at some developments regarding defensemen on other teams, there is perhaps some.questions arising like "why are they probably moving these defensemen."

Dumba is a decent young dman. You do not now have to wait a couple years for him to develop; he appears like he made strides the past season. I do if he is a rhs dman, but I do seriously doubt the Wild has to part ways with him if, indeed, they are bent on acquiring a solid RW.

Maybe Minny ought to speak to Montreal about Paciorety. On another trade destination which is still out there because it makes sense, finds another address for Paciorety- Florida. This would be an achievement BTW if Tallon reels in both Paciorety and Hoffman.

I do not see how we trade for Dumba. What would we give them .....Saad.

I do see how Lamorello would push both Carlson and Pulloch and I guess that puts Leddy and Boychuck next in depth. Ok, Boychuk still rates higher than the big shot from Pulloch. The two on the outside could be Hickey and deHahn. How those two could be effective in Chicago is somewhat perplexing. The NYi defense was bad last season. Those two represent experienced but along with Leddy their defense was not good last season. Various factors involved in rating them,; nonetheless still they will be in demand [since] being relatively young and experienced to bring aboard

Do you like getting either of those former first round choices in a Blackhawk uniform?

BTW why is ROR reportedly available? Trying to tell edtsblish a team identity by seitching out ROR. That if true is foolish.

Thew GMs are all here in Dallas now so things should heat up.

So my usual modus operandi is to find the watering holes close to the main NHL hotel...and cordially get people talking.

My favorite draft was the 1999 Florida one where the arena was in Sunrise but the nhl folk was on the Fort Lauderdale strip...so, me and my buddy, Blackhawk Bob spent time going place to place, and found lots of people there for the draft and kept asking essential questions to find stuff out...we met Gretsky who sitting next to him at the bar, Semenko! We heard all the hubbub about the fact teams were all trying to get the Atlanta #1 so they had the chance to select Ilya Kovalchuk....nhl guys always flattewred when fanboys know then, or are knowlegable.

Nashville draft was good to because the bars wwere across the street, loaded wirh former nhlers running their scouting...all the teams drinking together, New Jersey celebrating getting Zach Parise...

I love Nashville (both the city and the team), but can't stand the fans and all their bs taunts. My favorite was a Hawks' game where they scored a goal, and before they could taunt Crawford, the Hawks scored. That was the same day Kane flipped a puck to me to give to my daughter. I think she told every Hawks fan at Bridgestone that "Pat" gave her a puck! It was even better because 88 has always been her favorite Hawk.

"And IF Ottawa keeps their 4th over draft position and goes defense, that clearly (to me, anyway) is a tell Karlsson is not resigning there and part of return will be Vegas’ first rounder so that they can fulfill the payment in the Duchene trade with THAT first rounder, not THEIR own 2019 slotted pick."
-wiz1901

Not sure if this has already been addressed on the board, but the 1st round pick MUST be their own (OTT's), no matter which year, and cannot be a pick acquired. So that could drastically change that landscape.

This past season when the Hawks played the Leafs in the 3rd game of the year after starting 2-0 was exciting to watch despite losing 4-3 in OT.

Hearing the Blackhawks are discussing a trade with the Sabres regarding Ryan O'Reilly. Do not know what the Blackhawks could offer in return maybe 8th overall pick.
Also, everyone should know this, they have been trying to trade away some salary. Anisimov/Seabrook/Crawford are available,

Enzo,

Dont know if it was you or another poster that mentioned the pressure Stan is under right now. Makes you wonder if Stan is crazy enough to dump a high pick like that for a ROR or similar player. Hawks need to be not only above 500 next year, but a playoff team. I dont think Hawks ownership will allow a rebuild. Its a win now mindset which is fine, but sometimes you need that 2 year window for a reload even if it means no playoffs. We need to develop youngsters or we are in danger of becoming the Red Wings.

There have been a few posts along those lines, from Jhawk and Rico, and I'd agree with them. I am all for a win-now approach, but this #8 overall pick is looking like an all-star caliber forward as soon as 2019. NO WAY do I trade that pick unless its for a young dman like Ekblad, Seth Jones, Werenski, Provarov, ect

We have the pieces to trade for O'Reilly without giving up the 8th. O'Reilly would be a great addition and all but he isn't exactly erik Karlsson.

O'Reilly + Toews 1-2 punch at Center would be amazing....but see post above on why I would reserve trading #8 overall for a very few number of NHLers......Hawks need to draft a 10 year stud at 8

Hey, thank you! I didn't know that!

So maybe Ottawa needs to give them THIS pick unless they are able to trade it for several picks, because they may be picking first to third next year.
that pick is not lottery protected.

Imagine waiting until next year and it being lower than slot #4.

Where did you read it had to be theirs?

I will say that the #27 OA, plus a package of non-roster prospects not named Jokiharju or Mitchell, for ROR would be a big win in my mind..

I know the JVR debate rages on, but if he could be had for ~4 yrs/ <5.5m, and without a StanBo NMC/NTC (may be wishful thinking), and Wahlstrom selected at 8, one would be crazy to argue that doesn't appear a SIGNIFICANT upgrade at FWD from last years team.

With TVR on the blue line behind him. If JVR becomes a Hawk, Stan will trade and bring TVR back. And we all know how Q likes his vet D.

As a Leafs fan posted earlier, if JVR was willing to sign for $5.5mil at a shorter term, he would probably stay in Toronto.....I think its more likely the Leafs add TVR to boost their defense depth and reunite the brothers....
