Why would Crawford agree to waive his no trade to play in Buffalo?

Maybe the only team that is willing to take him?

MrR - agreed - I’m so pumped this morning because today has the potential to be remembered as one of the key days in Hawks’ history. Today is that important. Do you think it was purely coincidental that with Kane as Captain Draftee Hughes and just Draftee Hughes ends up at the Worlds sitting next to Kane. I have to think they have Hughes at 1 too. If Hughes is drafted he may play for the Hawks next year, he’s that good, that ready. StanBo and the Scouts must make it happen today. They cannot miss this opportunity.

As a Hawks fan all I see is an expensive declining core thats window is closing fast, if it hasn't already. Today there is a very reasonable chance to add two, maybe 3, legit players that will be part of a core that includes Schmaltz, Dcat, Saad, Joki and maybe even Sikura and Mitchell or even Gilbert and the 2 young Russians.

So Hawk fans go from the doom and gloom of a declining expensive core to the hope of a new young and talented core.

I wonder what his 10 team list looks like. I remember this being discussed on here, that he deliberately chose teams that already had established goalies with big contracts to decrease the likelihood that he gets traded. I can't believe Buffalo is on the list, though.

And even if he has ultimate veto power, the overwhelming sense of it being time to go could push him to accept a trade. I say that not knowing anything about what was going on with him last year.

NMCs or NTCs are only as strong as the team allows them to be. If the Hawks truly want CC moved there are ways to make his life uncomfortable moving forward. Such as maybe we should try to qualify you for LTIR. Also surely CC can see that he has been frustrating to the Hawks and a change in scenery may be the best option.

Sorry Rico, but I don't see a guy who is listed at 179 at 18yrs old adding 35 lbs.....

Just passing along what I've read/heard scouts say about Dobson that I personally agree with. My concern with putting on that much weight naturally or from the weight room is it will slow a kid down some. Saw it with my own eyes the yr Gilbert was a skinny 165-170 lb kid with the Steel the same yr he was drafted who could really motor to the 220lb 21 yr old still to be man he is today .......Of course you're free to disagree.

I think salary would be the biggest obstacle. ROR plus Lehner would be 11.5 million. Cory is only 6.0.

I think there would need to be someone going back from the Hawks. AA?

No way Lehner is going to get that kind of money.

The Hawks would never do that because then it becomes the reputation of the team, which impacts player signings and press. McDonough would never want such a thing to taint the image of the Hawks. More likely, they'd try to go the route Pittsburgh did with Flower - appealing to how it's better for the team and he is in the last couple of years of his deal. Players rarely waive NMCs before the final two years so this is a bit easier.

That said, the Grubauer rumors don't say to me the Hawks think Crawford is done - it says to me that they want a starter ready for when his deal runs out. Crawford didn't really break out until he was 28, Grubauer is 26, and Crawford has 2 years left on his deal - pretty perfect timing for Grubauer to take over when that deal is complete, much more than the younger guys in the system that are all like 23.

Hey, WIz. New Blog up! Justin, Wiz routinely posts on the old blog well after the new one is up. You need to inform him so he moves over.

Wiz, just teasing you here. Thanks so much for all the work you do on the draft and the insight you provide !! Very much appreciated!

I think you misunderstood what I meant. If Crawford is going to Buffalo and ROR is coming here, the salary is pretty much a wash. But, if the Hawks want Lehner too, that's another 4 million on the books for the Hawks. I would have to assume that the Hawks would want to shed more salary. Maybe AA would be going the other way to balance out the money.

So now let's name Murphy a captain and play him 23-24 min a night.

So he can do it on a "world championships stage" - where it's a watered down Olympics - therefore, he can automatically do it in the NHL

Oh, and Oesterle couldn't do it in Edmonton the same way Murphy was down to the 4-5 in AZ. But Murphy should be a top 3 here or hes getting screwed over. Got it.

Poor, poor Murphy. Such a victim. 😢😢
