someone get me excited for the upcoming season. minimal optimism over here. Nico should be better. Maybe Brat too.. annd.. a prayer that Zacha improves? There's Hall.. and Vats.. but.. that's.. I mean can we really expect to be much better next year? or a contender? what would make us a contender in the future? Is it a big UFA? A lucky pick in the draft? because picking 17th overall for the next 3 years won't land us another stud to go with Hischier and Hall to build a team with. I'm not jumping out of my seat with enthusiasm for any of our prospects. should I be? honestly.. not the rose-colored glasses.

Nico, Bratt, Butcher, Zacha, and Wood all have realistic potential to be better next year than they were this year. I also like to think we'll get more consistent goaltending than we got last year, but who's to say. Maybe another prospect or two (Mikey McLeod, Joey Anderson) make the lineup and play great. Who knows? All of that is also assuming we don't add anyone of consequence in free agency or via trade. The D really needs improving.

Nico was fantastic. Not incredible totals, but he played as flawless as any rookie I have seen. Bratt was flat out terrible the second half, and I guess there is nowhere to go but up. Zacha is realistically a 3/4 Centre, and has shown little offense upside. Wood is a great bottom 6 guy who will hopefully repeat his success this season. Butcher will get more ice time, and hopefully excell as he had throughout the season. But I am really expecting to see Mojo, Palms, and Schneids deliver. Those boys looked great in the playoffs and seem to be back on their A game. We just need another top pairing D desperately.

Yes I agree Nico and Butcher seem to be the most likely to improve.

There is a part of me that worries Bratt will be like a Matias Tedenby, great at first but then just falls off a cliff and can never keep it going, hope I'm wrong.

If Wood is already at his ceiling I don't think we can complain too much but I think there is still room to grow there.

Zacha to me is a big wild card. Could see him becoming much more consistent and a real solid second line center. Can see him never fully putting it together.

Yeah, we should fed Zacha through a wood chipper at this point. You know as the saying goes "if you don't reach your full potential after your second season you are a useless poop and should die".

If you guys havent, read, Lou's Wiki page. one quote I thought was interesting,

"According to Daneyko, Lamoriello believes in paying a third-line player as much as a first-line player if he feels they have the same value to the team."

Cap at about 80 million for 2018-19. Gives the Devils about 23 million in space with Wood, Noesen, Santini and Coleman as the only RFAs needing to be signed. Sheros got plenty of space to make moves if he wants.

True. But a lot of teams have cap space this year, some more than the Devils. Spend wisely,
or wait until next year. No Ryders or TooToos....

Kupari, Bokk, Sandin, Miller. I would be happy with any of the above. But it’s the draft someone will slip and maybe we get them or we will trade back.

we could've had Barzal . Imagine Hischier and Barzal down the middle. But then again.. Boston could've had Barzal with the THREE picks they had right before NY!

Why would a guy who has been the head coach of what 3 different teams and a cup winner want to come in to nj and be assistant to a guy who still has diapers on in the coaching world lol. Maybe he came to talk to ray about john being his assistant lol.
