Melnyk makes the Sens worse off, IMO.

Both teams seem to be putting themselves in a spot where they're trading their best assets for less than they're worth.

The difference is that Bergevin can be fired and replaced with someone competent before finally dismantling the team by moving Price/Weber/Pacioretty for a long overdue rebuild.

Melnyk is making the entire organization toxic and the way his management team has handled Karlsson and now Hoffman has removed almost any leverage the Sens had in possible trade talks. Especially with Hoffman. Even if they replace Dorion that won't change.

It's definitely close though as to which team is in a worse situation and that makes me very happy.

Canadiens may have the worst prospect pool in hockey. They may also have the worst contract in hockey if Price can't be that guy from a couple years ago, and how many of us think he can.

Ottawa has 3.5 of the 2 best players not in the NHL and they are about to trade the greatest player in the history of the game for a treasure trove of assets.

I hadn't considered Ottawa having 3.5 of the best 2 players not in the NHL. Further to that they'll likely be adding the oldest (and therefore probably best) player in the coming draft in Brady Tkachuk who has grit/passion/additional clichés to bring to the team.

With these additions they'll likely only have to surrender the 30 - 31 overall pick to Colorado next year.

In light of this new information I wish to amend my earlier assessment.

Loltreal is in a worse situation than Lolttawa.

Sens ownership, circus atmosphere and not even having a first round pick next year still trumps MTL bleeding skill in every trade + 2 terrible long term contracts
