Again there may have been an injury but there have been many examples of highly rated players who faced injuries in their draft year but don’t have their stock fall. Saad’s stock fell because of attitude. Fans watched to see if he would be an attitude problem when he went to training camp - he wasn’t and excelled. Saad is one of the reasons I an not at all concerned about Merkley’s “attitude” problems.

Pulled Groin he tried to play through. The attitude thing was blown out of proportion like it normally is because hockey is dumb and people teams don't disclose injuries the way they should.

Change of scenery and me think winger Domi might be a better center than Galchenyuk turned out to be.
Domi had a hugely disappointing year, but he is cheaper younger and feistier.....Habs got smaller?

I’m not saying he didn’t fight an injury but players that have been injured keep their high draft standing all the time.

A further point about Brady Tkackuk. Austin Matthews’ birthday is September 17. He missed being draft-eligible a year earlier by 2 days as September 15 is the cut-off date to turn 18. It was thought by everyone that he should have been eligible. He played this technical artificial extra year as an older undrafted player as a pro in Europe and was dominant.

Tkackuk’s birthday is September 16. He missed by only a day. So Tkachuk also had this technical artificial extra year where he was as old as an undrafted player can be. You would have expected that he would have been very dominant during a year which arguably should have been the year following his draft year but he really wasn’t. Obviously the NHL gets criticized in these instances. Tkachuk will be drafted this year as old as it is possible to be after qualification.

By comparison someone like Merkley is very young for a draftee. He will not turn 18 until after the Gretsky Hlinka Tournament on August 14. Consequently someone like Tkachuk has had almost an entire extra year to develop.

He was told before the trade deadline this time to get a list ready.
I don’t see what I am about to propose happen unless there is a center signing: trade Anisimov to the Habs with slot eight for slot. Montreal has been making inquiring to move back (probably indicating the really have Jesperi as their original target before the actually won the lottery, so they get Aa & slot eight.
IMO that is really not enough but who knows?
Hawks then can get Hughes, the best winger, or Brady.

- wiz1901

Why would he have needed to present a list at the TDL? AA had a full NMC then, so no list, just him saying yes or no to any trade they propose. His need for a trade list doesn't kick in until July 1st.

Show me the game a non-goalie ever played 60 min?

That stat means nothing. Because some people are better in sheltered minutes while some thrive playing more.

Anyone that has played versus reading corsi stats and diagrams will understand the physical and mental differences where when some players actually play more, their play gets sloppy and lazy.

Which is why different players play different minutes

So that made up statistics of points per 60min is as moronic as those that assume "if X player plays on the PP, had get 10-15 more points". As if being on the PP or getting more ice time magically equates to a guy scoring more points

- PatShart

I'm not sure you read my comment properly but okay you do you.

PS. Though jfyi most stats went talked about are at 5v5, esp WOWY like bread was doing, so PP doesn't come into it. Just letting you know so you can be better informed in your dismissal next time.

Another questionable deal by MB, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him fired within the next 12 months.

Moves like this make me appreciate to the signings Stan made today. Two quality depth guys signed for very reasonable deals. An excellent start to the off-season for Stan & Co.

Never checked out his NTC status,
I was told by a fairly reliable person, that Anisimov was approached by StanBo and asked or was told about a possible move that didn’t happen. . . Maybe a respect thing? But I honestly am not making that up

I see what you mean, but college guys don't fight. And I'm not a complete old school cement head, but every once in a while that's going to happen in the NHL, especially if a rookie is trying to muscle his way in.

We'll see what happens, take care.

Tkachuk played 2 yrs USHL where they fight, not sure if he did though.. For the reason you state I don't want to see fighting taken out of jrs which you will hear from time to time.... I don't want a 20 yr old kids first hockey fight vs a man when he turns pro.

I wonder if the Canes would buy-out Darling, then he could return to Chicago on a Richards-type deal.

If we acquire some right handed Dman...can the Hawks buyout Seabrook?

Did they announce both or just the joint effort between Wally and I (I made a 2nd proposal)?

I think they like to make fun of some of the outrageous trade offers people send them...which is likely 95% of offers fans send to them. So, that said, I hope they did not make fun of your trade offers.

HA.....well done.

Don't worry.....Bowman has a few guys left to sign. I'm sure he will get back to over 50% of his roster having the power of where they can be dealt, essentially nurturing him at his own job.

He is very loud on that podcast...and can come off as pompous. He literally hates that fans propose trades and comes off as "above that and all knowing". He sites Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger as guys who, if they say they heard a rumor, then take it as legit. My issue with that is that Lazerus never suggests trades or goes out on a limb. He just likes to criticize the fans for their trades thoughts. He lacks backbone.

Agreed! But I'm in the O'Rielly camp. Guy checks a lot of boxes for any NHL team.

7.5 million cap hit per year. Ain't happening so lets not even discuss it and give Laz. more ammo to make fun of us fans.

I think the Hawks definitely have the space for a $7.5m cap hit with the cap increase coming and the Hossa LTIR. Not saying they use it on O’Reolly but I don’t think it’s out of the question to bring in a big contract, especially considering bringing in OReilly could very well mean Anisimov is moved, although personally I think having Anisimov as our 3c would be a great luxury.

I am gonna state this in terms of ability (unrelated to CAP vs ability) one time: all this idea that Keith & Seabrook were the defensive detriment in last years season that caused a further tumble of the group is simply poppycock in my opinion; they were still the best two on the club, the others equaling them all around or reaching their game in game out abilities...this idea that a significant slippage in ability (production I will give you) has plunged in their games - in a nhl world w/o a CAP both would be guys teams would teams would BE CALLING for...certainly the Cap lessens their trade value but not their nhl abilities. It infuriates me when I keep reading the contrary in posts that advocate lists of lesser lights with lower abilities and eyeball track records.

After hearing John Chaka Khan say he is playing Galchenyuk as his centre solution (while the progressing Strome changes opinion on him being a bust), so maybe this gets me to further drop the Finn Jesperi, who I tagged TO Arizona (if Habs feel that Zadina is simply too
much of a close to ready scoring option to make the commitment over the draft board). My gut tells the Habs see Zadina fill Galchenyuks goal loss.
Although my optimism still wanes with Detroit there as a possibly selection of Jesperi if there hometown jewel Hughes gets scooped prior.

I can be a bit of hawk fanboy draft pessimist and am afraid to admit the lengths I have worked reworked the draft board (even attempted possible trade scenarios trying to get the run on the defense position that I personally feel might not happen), trying to drop the Finn, the US sniper or the Brady into the hawks...
