We keep hearing these things and the trade market is a bust. We hear the same things during the draft and very little gets done.

Pretty bad if playoffs, Lou, and Barry and Isles cannot land Panarin or Duchene
- ses111

Big part of me believes that Lou will stand pat with what he has and not spend any assets on anyone. We have a ton of money coming off the books in the next couple years. The thing with Lou is though heโ€™s kind of unpredictable so my prediction is he may make a trade or he may not. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I donโ€™t think he makes a trade but you gotta think he goes after one or both of Duschene and or Panarin. My guess is he targets Duschene July 1

I think I'd rather see Lou make definitive decisions on the players already on the team than shop for anything in addition. I really don't want to go past the trade deadline with none of the pending FAs signed. The shine comes off a surprise season with a possible first or second round exit real quick if multiple players walk for nothing at the end of the year after losing a big player for nothing last year.

Nice to see the Islanders not viewed as potential sellers into the trade deadline.

We really are such in a weird spot. I guess the safe thing to do is just stand pat and hope for the best in the playoffs. But do we let go of Eberle or ride him out in a playoff run?

Remember...there's no guarantee we even make the playoffs next year. Sometimes you gotta strike while the irons hot. But looking at this current roster i totally get the hesitation to throwing away draft picks/assets for rental players. Trading for guys that are under contract is another story.

But seriously...what if we have an amazing 2nd half of the year. End up finishing first in the Metro, and the only team ahead of us is Tampa? and no other team is within 6 points of the Isles. We obviously can't sit there and ignore that...

Totally agree. One of the guys I would like to see extended is Robin Lehner, since there's no way to know when goalie help will arrive through the pipeline.

We don't have room or the time for guys that would most likely be cut during Training Camp.

If it's just Eberle, that's one thing. I can trick myself into looking at Eberle as a rental we didn't have to pay anything to get. If the deadline passes with no word on Lee, Nelson, and Eberle, that's obviously a much bigger issue.

Yeah, I've been so focused on the forward FAs I haven't even really thought a lot about Lehner. He sounds like he really likes it here...the things he's said about the support he's gotten from the organization...so you'd have to think they could bring him back for a reasonable amount. But how many years would you give him? I'm not sure I'd commit a lot of years to him just yet, but that's probably because I've watched a lot of Sabres games over the past few seasons and I've seen him at his absolute worst.

Oh Lee had his share of brain farts as well. I absolutely love Lee, but his two way game was a (frank)ing mess last year. No so this year, and he's still on pace for 25+G/60+P.

My God what magnificent man.

I agree UIF. I would not be comfortable especially letting Lee go unsigned after the deadline. Lou needs to wraps some of these players up. Have to think Lou would want to re-sign Robin as well.

Ideally, you extend him for just 2 years. That gets you one year beyond Greiss's contract. I suppose a lot depends on what, if anything, is transpiring between Lou and Sorokin. If it's looking bad for ever seeing Sorokin in the NHL, maybe you give Lehner a 3rd year? He's only 27, I think.
