Dont cherry pick the statistic with the last few months of one season (his FINAL season). Lets talk about every season that he's carried this team since his first one. Im gonna go out on a limb and say this team was exponentially better with 91 in the lineup.
- kindlyrick

You have to mention the good and bad with JT. You cannot just mention his points. Right or wrong JT was not good the last few months last year. The last few months of the season count.

We can agree to disagree, but like I said, if 91 leaves, the isles are gonna feel it. He's not so easily replaced. Its a fact that if he walks you're losing north of 80 pts a year, a coupla GWG's, and one of the best centers below the hash marks. Let me also add that it was 91 who single handily carried the isles on his back and won them their first playoff round since 1993. I dont think that's replaced by Bozak and JVR, with or without Lou and Barry.
- kindlyrick

We also may get back a few blown overtimes and shootout losses

Whatever bad that guy has, i for one will take it. Im also not gonna judge him on his play the final few months of a sh!tty season when his contract was expiring. As I said before the isles with 91 in the lineup is a much better team than without. All im saying is if he walks, its going to seriously handcuff this team for a few years.

I don't think they would have to start from scratch. They would have a ton of cash and prospects to make some deals. Yeah its a setback but not to the point you tear it down and rebuild IMO
- Vukota

Jt is great but johnson and jvr make up that point per game however they cant take a game over, barzal can though so it's not as bad as it seems

Im not arguing 91 as perfect. Every great player blows a tire now and again. But the isles are a better team with him.....and losing an asset like that for nothing, sets them back. You can dissect this any which way, but i much prefer this nerd signing here...

You may disagree but greiss was an unsung hero in that series. The guy stood on his head he was pretty damn good. I don't think they could've beat the Panthers without jt or greiss.

It's not fun to talk about a players weakness even JT's but it's all valid.

Maple Leafs have made some staff changes. Jacques Lemaire, Jacques Caron, Nikolai Ladygin, Evgeny Namestnikov and Tommy Albelin have all left the organization.

First two were special assignment coaches with ties to Lamoriello. Other three in scouting department.

- eichiefs9

Lemaire and namestnikov were said to be joining isles on the 1st as well as one or two others

Exactly Cpt! Greiss was the reason the Isles even had a chance. Florida badly outplayed the Isles.

He takes a while to get going and generally swoons at the end. Seems to be a pattern with him.

Greiss played like a playoff goaltender should......and JT played like the leagues elite, single handily scoring the series winner.

Trotz is most likely going to do more for this team than any of us are envisioning. Our coaching has been that BAD for years. You may see a player like Nelson supercede expectations if he's not traded. If he makes a couple key trades and some players perform at or a little beyond expectations the team very well may surprise without tavares. That actually may be a best case scenario rather than being handcuffed to an inflated contract for 8 years.
- Cptmjl

100% Cpt. just the difference he made with The Caps as far as their defensive game and structure.
Taking OV who played 0 defense and turning him into the player he was under Trotz was a 180 degree turn around.
Its going to be interesting to see the changes he makes in the players on the team and their all around game play.

Its funny, but all of the weakness' that are spoken about JT, were all under the defensive system of unproven coaches. Talking about his weaknesses on D, is like chirping a Ferrari for not being great in the Snow..

Let me also add that its really tough to argue anyones OT play, as its a run and gun game and literally ANYONE can win with a 3 on 3. There is no defense......its literally all offense.

You discount Greiss's play as just "a playoff goalie". Come on man he was excellent and is exactly why he got the contract he did. Hey man we're all on the same side here we all want him back but he ain't God. Far from it in fact. Guy has a bunch of faults to his game and at times they're glaring whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

im not discounting Greiss at all.......he played well. I just think there are 649 other Thomas Greiss' and not many Tavares calibur players. I'll also add that Wade Dubliewitz stood on his head for the isles to get into the playoffs, but he still was a career back up.

JT should not need a coach to tell him to make sure he gets back into the d zone and actually picks up a player.. It's easy to argue when a player plays almost the entire OT.

Nobody is comparing the class of players tavares is to Greiss I'm just saying we don't win that series without Greiss without a doubt.

Im not going to have a back and forth over a 3 on 3 OT play gone wrong. Its a total sh!t show with this new 3 on 3. Its a gimmick to ensure a goal is scored without relying on the shootout. I do agree he's not the fastest and prob should have taken shorter shifts at points, but I blame the coach on that.

I agree the OT and SO needs to be dumped. As bad as the Isles coaches have been, JT needs to understand he cannot play most of the OT.

I also think he over thinks and does way to much far too often which is tough to watch when he's going through a dry spell. With that said I'll happily take the crazy bastard for another 8 years
