Speak for yourself as far as going back to that cess pool of a thread

I won't even post on it to give that clown hits.

I've posted a couple times but not to that fat ass. I will admit that I have trolled him responding to others calling out BD. Just looking for a ban, I guess.

Well he's only meeting with the Islanders twice, so...that can't be bad...right?

JT will tell the Isles it took too long to bring in quality hockey people so I'm signing with the Leafs.

I'm half joking of course BUT I believe like I've been saying all along the FACT that this team has so many holes is most likely the biggest negative for him. The guy has been saying since day one all he wants to do is win. That's the main reason I was a bit disturbed we hung onto both of those picks.

I believe the arena situation also plays a big part. Barclay's ice sucks!

I don't expect to hear anything until at least Sunday.

So I see where Noel wrote on June 25 a reference to Tom Petty's Waiting is the hardest part, and on June 26, BD wrote a blog by the same title.

Coincidence?

I wanted a trade to happen as well, but I'm glad the Patches trade did not happen. Did not seem to be a deal for a tope goalie or dman for the picks. I think the Isles did well keeping the picks.

This is isn't a debbie downer post more of a question but would you feel the same about those picks if tavares doesn't resign and cites the fact the islanders are far away from being contenders?

The picks were great whether he stays or goes. I know everyone wanted to trade them for immediate help but if there was no immediate help worth trading them for....then there was no immediate help worth trading them for. You and I don't know, and probably never will, whether there was or wasn't an appropriate deal to use those picks in.

Alternate way of looking at things: John Tavares now knows that it's very likely the Islanders will be able to keep a steady influx of highly talented young players who are on ELC's rolling in. Which means they can pay him and still afford to be competitive. Look at the Lightning, their young guys just come up and kill it year after year. They aren't typically out looking to make the big splash in UFA or make massive trades.

I still think it was the right move keeping the picks if all reports about these players are true. I know many will disagree, but JT could have went to ownership earlier about his concerns about management and coaching. I know ownership should know better but it holds more weight when it comes from the star player.

There really did not seem to be a trade for a star goalie and the star goalies all have age and salary against them like Hank and Price. Isles are going to have to get creative in terms of a goalie. Same thing in terms of dman. Plenty of teams can win without big name dmen. You make a good point about Tampa. Really hard to make a big splash in FA as you will not see the big impact players get to FA. Smart trades can work just as well as big name trades.

My point was mainly that having a ton of good prospects gives you the flexibility to fill holes in the roster with really talented young guys that cost next-to-nothing, relatively speaking.

Every good team that has won a Cup or competed for in recent years has had young guys stepping up all season and in the playoffs to help get them there. It also allows teams to go out and land one big fish to try and get them over the hump.

Good points however, The Lightning have their core in place and are using their young players to fill holes on the team. They don't need to make big splashes in the UFA market. The Islanders need to rebuild their core unfortunately and that usually means using your prospect and picks to bring in the pieces needed.
For the Isles, 2 top 4 D man, a starting goalie and some forward depth need to be acquired and I think its going to take some assets to get them.
That said if JT doesn't sign I don't think the Isles will be as aggressive in trading their prospects with a win now mentality. They're more likely to retool and give the team a couple of years to come together.

1000% agree on the bolded.

And I wasn't making an exact comparison to the Lightning, just pointing out that they're able to be successful every single year because they have cap flexibility due to young guys stepping into big roles. Obviously the Islanders are a long way off from being like the Bolts, but I was just trying to point out that this year's draft was a lot more important than Cpt was giving it credit for in my opinion.

Gotcha all good and agree
Once JT either signs or bounces I think we will see the plan Lou has for the team start to take shape. Lou's hands are tied until he knows what Jt decides.
