I did not expect that.. he seems to be flying everytime I see the kid.

He's almost always where he needs to be because he skates smart, I guess I'd say...doesn't waste time looping around or getting himself out of position, and he starts and stops at the right moments to time offensive plays. I think I wrote a couple of weeks ago here that, watching him a few times on AHL TV, if I hadn't read about the knocks on his skating it wouldn't have been something I'd have noticed since he's never really lagging behind the play. But when I got to see him live, he was definitely one of the slower skaters going up and down the length of the ice. If they plan to keep him as a center, I think he'd need to get faster to stick in the NHL. And I kind of hope they do develop him as a center because he looks good there.

I was at that game, but my kid was getting restless by the third period so we left before that goal. Koivula had a solid game while I was there, though. He and Vande Sompel were probably the best two for Bridgeport (even if it was BPort without Ho-Sang, Dal Colle, Toews, and even Aho for some reason).

Seeing him in person, where you can see what's going on away from the puck, it's hard to believe Koivula's only played center for a handful of games. He doesn't look out of place there at all. He had two AHL vets on his wings, which probably helps, but he was always where he needed to be on offense and D and was pretty much the one who got things going for that line all night. I do get the knocks on his skating now after watching him get up and down the ice each shift. He definitely needs to get faster and more explosive, but he's solid on his skates in the corners and along the boards.

I believe Aho sat out the 3rd period of the previous game with an upper-body injury.

Seems like Koivula is trending towards being a hit in the 4th round. Definitely still needs work but if he can be an effective middle-6 center that's a big win. Anything better is a massive win.

I got about halfway through before I couldn't take it anymore and decided to just mock him

I think Dundee made an Isles account

My wife bought tickets for this one back when I started watching some of the games to see the prospects. By the time this game finally rolled around, almost all the prospects I was watching were either hurt or already up with the Islanders

Filppula back in his regular spot at #Isles practice. Hickey in a gray no-contact sweater also on the ice for practice. Dal Colle skating with Kuhnhackl and Johnston on extras line.

While I agree that it's also tough on the eyes, I don't think paragraphs would have saved that post. It's borderline-schizophrenic

Saw both Hickey and Filppula working out on the ice at Northwell yesterday before my Son's game. They both look pretty good on the ice. expected both of them to be back tomorrow but I guess Hickey is still a no go....

edit: by the way I couldn't figure out the 3rd guy on the ice working out with them.. looked like Leo but his helmet had number 44 on it. Any ideas? Coach? trainer?

They're going to have a real tough decision to make when Hickey is healthy. At this point, with how well Toews has been contributing, they really can't justify doing anything other than waiving Sbisa and pushing Pelech to the 7th defenseman spot. Pelech's dumbass contract shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not he's a regular starter.

Could've been a coach or trainer wearing an old surplus de Haan helmet? I have no idea otherwise.

Yeah I couldn't resist, I went back and looked at those trade proposals. I hope that's someone's troll account, because if that's an actual lucid thought then....yeah, that's bad.

Send SheSung, poop Ass Bailey, Oliver Twist, Quenneville, and a future first rounder for Tarasenko and stud Dman Alex pa pa pa you know who

So we send Ho Sang, a 29yo Bailey, Wahlstrom, ECHL-defenseman David Quenneville, and a 1st for Tarasenko and Alex "Pa pa pa you know who" Pieterangelo

and then,

Then Dal Colddd, Clutter, a second rounder, 3rd round conditional, and Dobbson paired with Sodderstrom and Greiss forrrrrr Panarin, his agent being banned from the league, and the giant green giant himself BoBroooooooo knowing first and foremost they are all here to stay!!!

Dal Colle, Clutterbuck, a 2nd, a CONDITIONAL 3rd (wtf is the condition?), Dobson, Soderstrom (who hasn't played hockey this year) and Greiss for Panarin and Bobrovsky

Oh and Panarin's agent has to quit the business, too

He's not flashy, but he is a steady defensive d-man. He kind of got lost in the PJ Boy shuffle. I'm not sure why Lou didn't re-sign him. Biggest knock is that he was a bit injury-prone with the Isles.

I think Lou did try to re-sign de Haan and then turned to Hickey when de Haan left.

Brayden Schenn #8 on The Athletic's list of 20 players who could be moved by the deadline

8. Brayden Schenn, Blues: It might be better for headline material to put Vladimir Tarasenko in this slot but the asking price there is sky high. “I know they’d move him,” said one executive of Tarasenko. Still, that’s not an easy midseason trade to pull off. A little more realistic could be a deal involving Schenn. On some level, he’s similar to Derick Brassard last year because he’d give teams depth at center and also term beyond this season, with Schenn signed for one more year at $5.125 million. Like every potentially available center, he’ll be attached to the Bruins. His offensive production is down a touch from last season, averaging closer to his career totals of 0.62 points per game, a reasonable expectation for him.

On defense, Alex Pietrangelo’s name has come up in the rumor mill but he has a no-trade so that’s not an easy one. Colton Parayko is another target for teams looking at defense.

“St. Louis is always a team that is willing to make a deal,” said an NHL source. “Quite a few players there (available). They will be interesting to watch.”

Carolina is only paying DeHaan a little over $4.5 million per season for 4 years. I'd be curious to know what Lou offered.

I was just very amused by the fact that we somehow included an ECHL player and a goaltender who hasn't played a single game this season in two separate deals for star players
