MDC and JHS working out also does wonders for the Cap. I would leave Toews, JHS, and MDC up the rest of the year. It's a lot easier on young talent with a great coach like Barry. It's no accident MDC and JHS have shown something this year in Bridge.

I would leave them up till they give a good reason to send them down if they do. It was one game with MDC I get that but to me he deserves a longer look... I’m sure Bridgeport’s needs and Eberle’s availability will have a significant impact on the decision also.

It's great the Isles finally have options in Bridge Cpt. Going to be very interesting to see how things play out. I think it really helped MDC cause that he did not complain the last time he was sent down and he ended up going on a tear. I think playing on the line with Leo and Fili would also do wonders for MDC.

Yeah if he’s in our next game great if he craps the bed ok but the kid definitely seemed to have responded to his last call up and did what he needed to do to improve. We’ll see where it goes from here...

Yep! To me this is the perfect season to get a good look at Toews, JHS, and MDC. If they do not work out at least you know and know you need to look outside.

To me toews needs to stick at this point. Rotate Pelech and him out of the line up when Hickey gets back if Trotz feels compelled to play him if need be even though Pelech had himself a nice game also yesterday. I’m thinking having toews in the line up is pushing Pelech’s play. Whatever works. JHS made a couple gaffes yesterday at the Leafs blue line that probably made Trotz cringe I’m sure so his roster spot is most likely to be determined and will remain as such for a while. MDC is a complete toss up and will be for the foreseeable future especially for the reasons I mentioned in my last post.

Toews seems like the most sure thing out of JHS and MDC. It may not be the biggest sample size but Isles record is good with JHS in the lineup. I'm not sure you saw my last edit but JHS is like Grabner in that when they do not score they are still huge threats. MDC needs a longer look to get a better read but he shows some promise. Has good size and a good shot and hopefully uses it even more with more NHL games.

100% agree. Was shocked at how good he looked.
- Cptmjl

In the past hes looked lost and slow (mentally and physically) maybe hes starting to gain confidence that he can play at this level. Filling in these spots with their own prospects is huge for cap issues and much as we hate him these are snow picks. The only thing snow ever did qell qas move up in draft and evwn then he blew it on several high picks

It was an awesome game but from what I remember Barzal seemed to be out against Matthews line most of the night and Nelson’s out against Tavares. I didn’t look at any charts or anything but it certainly looked to be the match up. Of course there was some over lap but to me it looked like the more consistent match up with 4th line against 4th line most of the night. Also while I thought Cizikas had a great game and Martin looked ok Clutterbuck was his usual train wreck out there😂
- Cptmjl

Barzal took out Matthew's in the 1st and while Mathews is the better player barzals skill set isn't that far off. Hes realizing he can shoot and score in this league

Toews advanced stats are through the roof so far. Hes faced seguin benn spezza mathews marner tavares and nylander and handled himself very well. They havent exploited him as a rookie

Agreed and you have to think his offense starts showing up once he gets even more comfortable. He moves the puck extremely well and gets the puck out and up quick. If these kids really start to shine this team is legit without adding anything else to the line up from outside the organization.

May be a stretch with MDC and even Ho Sang when talking long term but that remains to be seen. The one consistent negative that MUST be fixed is this teams power play which it seems to be overlooked a bit with our recent stretch of good play. We fix that we’re adding a bunch of points to this season we may have left on the table. I see the same thing going on pp after pp and how Clutterbuck continues to be thrown out there boggles the mind. He doesn’t get in front of the net and literally offers nothing but he’ll be out there again tomorrow night without a doubt.

Yea powerplay blows at least put mdc there for his shot. Toews also can close the gap quick if hes beaten with his speed i think he is here to stay hes looked great

I’m hoping Trotz gives these kids more time up here and integrates them into the pp the more comfortable they get. The problem is our first unit has the talent and still isn’t executing which makes me think it’s a structural thing which by all means should fall on Gomez's shoulders.

This is great

Trotz would go on to call Martin and Komarov “quality people on and off the ice” while also admitting he wasn’t completely sold on the acquisition of the two players at first.

“I wasn’t too sure,” said Trotz. “But when (Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello) explained it to me, the reasons, I wasn’t sure. But now I’m sure. I understand fully. They’ve been great for us.”

Something has to change. PP gets fixed and this team continues to play the way it does we’re probably adding an additional ten points to our season at least. That most likely gets us into the playoffs and who knows? Maybe even home ice.

I still have a smile on my face from last nights game. A shutout against that lineup is crazy. Everyone did their job.
I can’t wait for the Feb. 28th game when Pajama Putz comes to The Old Barn.

Yeah, I hate Toronto for that series, too. IMO, Tucker and Roberts never paid the price they should have.

Those were some great brawls, and I'd have to throw in some from the early days, involving Nystrom and (Clark) Gillies and Howatt.
