Hamonic has really been through a lot and is a class guy. Hate to see something like this.

Random goalie comment.... I see where Mikko Koskinen has taken over as #1 goalie in Edmonton. Ironic, because of all Garth's goalie draft picks, I always thought he had the most potential. He only got a brief chance on the Island (I think an injury was a factor), but IMO he looked decent, behind a defense that featured the likes of Bruno Gervais, Andrew MacDonald, Jack Hillen, and Travis Hamonic (the best of a bad lot). I'm gonna be extra pissed, if he continues to play well, and Greiss/Lehner don't play as well....

I also thought Mikko showed some promised in very limited action. It would not have been crazy to bring him back on a 1 year deal this year and especially with Barry coaching.

That draft still makes no sense to me. took Koskinen with first pick in second round and then took another 7 foot goalie Nilsson with the first pick in the 3rd. I get taking 1 or the other but using picks that high for both was absurd.

Most things Garth did made no sense like using the draft on all dmen.

I kind of understood that b/c he had taken so much sht for not having good D-prospects.... He said eff it... we are going to draft 7 of them and hope one pans out.

Edit- If you think Pelech stinks then he went 0-7 by the way.

I really thought Doyle Somerby might turn into something after watching him at BU. He is a REALLY big kid who was tossing people around like rag dolls. I would not be shocked to see him eventually make it onto Columbus one day.

great win by the isles and im sure the nassau crowd was electric.

Cizikas with a huge goal. This guy brings alot of intangibles to this team that were sorely missed when he was out injured.

if not for Bobrovsky goaltending i think isles would have blown Columbus out Saturday.

Lets see if we can put together a little win streak together. This PP really needs to get going.

Mikko has been a very pleasant surprise. He’s not a flashy goaltender by any means, but is usually sound positionaly. Nothing he does looks smooth, yet he gets the job done. Doesn’t hurt that he’s (frank)ing huge. His size and style of play remind me of Dubnyk.
I was pissed when Chiarelli signed Koskinen. Giving 2.5 and a full NMC to a KHL convert seemed ludicrous. How (frank)ing wrong I was.

And there were D to be had that year. Reilly, Dumba, Trouba, Lindholm, Maata, Skjei, Matheson, McCabe, Severson, Lindell, Gostisbehere, Parayko, Gustafsson, Slavin, Miller, etc.

If the choice was Mikko or Robin I would have signed Mikko. Really cannot get on Lou though.

Bode Wilde signs a three-year, entry-level deal with the #Isles. More details here.

He's over a PPG (5-17-22pts in 21gp) in the OHL. 8th in defenseman scoring and has played significantly fewer games than the rest because of injury.

He may be on delay while they reach out to Tyler Bertuzzi for this trash job:

Would be awesome for Dobson and Wilde to be ready next year but that's pushing things. Maybe one of them?

Probably not either, I would imagine. Wilde has a ton of talent but there's lots of questions about his decision-making. Offensive guys are always going to turn the puck over more, that's just the cost of being/having that kind of player, but I think he's had some egregious issues in the past with that. I can't imagine both won't be on their respective WJC rosters at the end of the month, so it'll be fun to see them play on the big stage against top talent. Wahlstrom and maybe Iskahakov will be there too.

They'd have to blow the doors off even the most optimistic expectations to have a chance, I think. Lou and the Isles seem like they'd prefer older prospects who have paid their dues in the AHL, or looking for vets outside the organization before they'd think about playing a kid straight out of juniors.

I'm not positive, but the good news with Wilde is that he was drafted out of the NTDP so I believe he'll be eligible to go to the AHL early if they want to get him there.

Yeah I was actually watching that game live when it happened, you couldn't even see what he did until they had the slow-mo replay. The Avs announcers (who are kinda homer-ish) lost their minds
